When Will This Thing Finally End!?

We have to stay at home about 80% of the time and when we do go out, we have to wear uncomfortable masks, stay six feet apart from others and can’t go to a nightclub.
On those rare times we do go out, we encounter bars that are often so empty because of social distancing rules that if this were a normal time, we would pass by them in a heartbeat in search of a more lively place.
Concerts, festivals and sporting events have been canceled.
And, just when it seemed things were getting back to normal – or the new normal anyway – a governor makes an announcement and suddenly bars are closed in California, Florida and Texas.
Let’s face it: nightlife in this COVID-19 era sucks.

Going to a bar is all about being with and around people, partying and socializing. It’s see and be seen and being part of the scene. It’s about being around friends and making new friends, for going to watch sporting events with fans of the same team.
And for many it is, above all else, a place to meet people for a night (or more) of personal pleasure. Singles bars, ya know.
Yet we can do none of those things now, or at least to the degree (or success) to what we could in normal bar times.
But what else do we have – sit at home and message our friends while pounding down liquor? Put up a bunch of silly posts on social media? Watch old sports games or Netflix movies until we don’t even know what we are watching? No, so we go out when we can and hope for the best time we can have with the limitations the coronavirus has put upon us and the bars.
There’s not much we can do about it, either, other than stand on our balconies and scream: when will this thing finally end!?
