That’s because in three years, a new Indonesian law kicks in that will prohibit sex in the country for anyone outside of marriage. And yes, that applies to the Fiji.
“From our point of view as tourism industry players, this law will be very counterproductive for the tourism industry in Bali – particularly the chapters about sex and marriage,” Putu Winastra, chairman of the country’s largest tourism group, the Association of The Indonesian Tours And Travel Agencies (ASITA), told CNN.
According to CNN, “the new laws are seen as response to rising religious conservatism in Muslim-majority Indonesia in recent years, with parts of the country enforcing strict Islamic codes. In Bali, the population is predominantly Hindu and as a result has tended to have a more liberal social environment that appeals to Western tourists.”
The law won’t appeal to many “Western tourists” or single and party-minded tourists from many other countries, either. Once it takes effect, then tourism in more get-laid-friendly countries such as Thailand and the Greek Islands will be getting those tourists instead of Bali. Australia could also benefit, as well as other more tolerant countries in that part of the world.
Currently, Bali is known for having some of the best nightlife destinations in Asia, in particular South Bali. That surely will screech to a halt when the new law takes affect. Those beach bars, nightclubs and rooftop bars may all go dark.
Bali is also a paradise for surfers and they like to chase girls as much as they enjoy chasing waves.
