Scenic Things To Do Beyond The Falls
I discovered the Niagara Parkway almost by accident while traveling from Niagara Falls to a wine tasting in Niagara-on-the-Lake. The scenery along the Niagara River was so impressive that I knew it deserved more than a passing mention. With river views, trails, the Niagara Whirlpool, gardens and attractions along the way, this is a drive worth adding to a Niagara Falls trip.

There are bike and walking paths, a whirlpool, wooded areas, cliffs, golf courses, gardens and spectacular views of the Niagara River. And at one end is Niagara Falls, while the other leads toward Niagara-on-the-Lake and Ontario wine country.
It’s the Niagara Parkway, a spectacular stretch of roadway leading from Niagara Falls to the quaint town of Niagara-on-the-Lake, which itself leads to the Niagara Wine Country. It adds to the beautiful bounty that is the Niagara Falls area in Ontario, Canada.
Niagara Parkway Scenic Views & Things To See
The are also places for bird watching, the Butterfly Conservatory, a public golf course and one stop-for-a-picture place, the Floral Clock, a clock made of flowers where every tourist stops to snap a few photos.
Running parallel to the parkway is the Niagara River Recreation Trail, a running and bike path.
There are also dozens of Bed & Breakfast Inns along the way in converted houses across the parkway from the river.
It seems to go on, and on and on, but in reality is 35 miles (56 km). The full Niagara Parkway stretches 56 km (35 miles) along the Canadian side of the Niagara River from Fort Erie to Niagara-on-the-Lake. The section I traveled followed the river north from Niagara Falls toward Niagara-on-the-Lake and wine country. It is a two-lane road, ideal for a casual afternoon drive. It’s well worth extending a Niagara Falls vacation by a day to explore this area.
Time it to have lunch at one of the many restaurants in Niagara-on-the-Lake, then make the slow return to Niagara Falls in time to see the rainbow over the Falls as late afternoon gives way to early evening.
