A Lively Pub & Club In Switzerland’s City On The Rhine

One would think – think! – that Europe’s best Irish bars are all in, well, Ireland.
Scattered about Dublin like empty keg of Guinness.
But that’s not the case. In fact, one of the best is in the vibrant mid-sized city of Basel, Switzerland.
It’s Paddy Reilly’s and all you have to do is go in on a Friday or Saturday night for verification.
PubClub.com certainly has, and let us say that no matter what kind of fun bar you might be expecting, it will not disappoint.
Because that’s exactly what it is, a fun, packed bar full of lively people, friendly bartenders (no matter how slammed they are, they always take the time to say hey to you as they hand you a beer) and an atmosphere that just says “you’re in the middle of the party!”
If you are cruising around Europe looking for a place to party, then hop a train to Basel and make this your primary objective. And click here for more fun bars and nightlife in Basel!
Paddy’s – located on the corner of Steinentorstrasse and Klosterberg, a block up from a lineup of cafes which themselves are buzzing on weekend nights – is two packed levels of casual mayhem, large numbers of guys and girls drinking beer as if it’s a life-giving substance, talking, dancing and laughing.
Any visitor who thinks the Swiss are stoic and in need of loosening up a bit need only to go to Paddy Reilly’s on a weekend after midnight. Here, you’ll find them as chatty as the Irish. A few beers in a jamming bar has that effect on people all over the world.
Of course, there are a lot of Germans here, too, since Germany is just across the Rhine River from Basel. And they know a good bar when they find one!
Paddy’s is so full of fun, it can’t all be contained in a single level. The main level has a long bar and is the best place to start conversations with strangers. Fun party music blows out from a DJ.

Downstairs, more modern dance tunes are mixed in with party classics and people jam the dance floor to let out all the fun the beer has put in their personalities.
Down there, it’s hot, sweaty and energetic, making Paddy’s the prefect combination of pub and club. Naturally, this is the perfect environment for PubClub.com!
There is a third, more civil level upstairs, which is ideal for catching your breath or carrying on a conversation that started at one of the two other levels.
So Paddy’s is really like three bars in one, which means you can bar hop without having to wait in line anywhere else in town.
Actually, there’s a fourth option, too, and it’s ideal for those who have been sweating away downstairs: outside. While there’s a sit-down patio, most people prefer to stand on the grass in an adjacent small park.
Paddy’s is busy on Thursdays and so popular on Fridays and Saturdays you had better get there by midnight. Even then, you’ll have to wait in line for 15-20 minutes. It’s open untl 4 and is at full strength from 11 p.m.-3 a.m.
There is also at Paddy Reilly’s in Zurich and Fribourg. PubClub has been to Zurich but somehow missed Paddy’s, but if the one in Basel is any indication, it’s certainly worth a visit. Same thing in Fribourg.
