LA’s Snow Tubing Park Ready For Winter Fun
Even it means a little assist from man-made machines.
Recent evening weather conditions have allowed Big Bear Snow Play to make snow and as such the snow-tubing park opened on Nov. 2. It will continue to stay open and make snow as weather permits.
“We’re the only place in Southern California with snow right now!,” said an enthusiastic Scott Voigt, Big Bear Snow Play Director of Operations. “We have a solid snow base to start the season, and the weather forecast shows we’ll have a lot more opportunities to make snow in the next 10 days.”
Big Bear Snow Play has ski-resort quality snowmaking systems to assure there is always snow for snow-tubing family fun from November to April. The tubing park also grooms its runs nightly to ensure optimum sliding conditions, just as do ski resorts. As winter continues, Big Bear Snow Play will eventually blanket its runs with more snow and expects to boast more than 20 feet of snow on up to eight runs.
Big Bear Snow Play provides two Magic Carpet uphill lifts, which are comprised of a large moving conveyor belt, similar to an airport terminal people mover that transports riders to the top of snow-packed slopes. One of the Magic Carpet rides comes equipped with a Plexiglass cover for those bone-chilling days.
New this year at Big Bear Snow Play is an exhilarating aerial adventure called Big Bear Ropes Course. You can balance on ropes, cross bridges, and climb through various obstacles, all from the safety of a climbing harness. Big Bear Ropes Course sends participants on a self-guided tour through 37 obstacles spread over 6,400 sq. feet on 2 levels that are 12 to 35 feet in the air. It’s a great way to get above the snow to see Big Bear’s unique winter landscape. Big Bear Ropes Course is open all year round (weather permitting).
Big Bear Snow Play is open this Saturday & Sunday, Nov. 2-3 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. It will resume operations the following weekend November 9 and 10, and then continue to operate daily from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Glow tubing starts Friday, Nov. 29, and will be open every Friday, Saturday, and holiday nights from 5 p.m.-9 p.m.
Snow Tubing passes, which includes tube rental and Magic Carpet lift are $35; a small child’s ticket (36” to 42” in height) is $20 with a paid adult 18 years or older.
