
Part of the popularity of the Padres – the team sells out nearly every game – is the game-day experience. That goes beyond the stadium and includes the scene surrounding Petco Park.
Before games, people gather at bars and restaurants and here are several that offer Padres game-day specials.
Hotel Indigo San Diego has a rooftop bar, Borrego Rooftop Kitchen + Cocktails, that looks directly through center field. It also ahs a secod spot, Table 509 Bar + Kitchen.
Borrego has a pre-game and post-game happy hour with $6 draft beers and $4 off wines plusa Padres punch. Table 509 has $5 jello shots and $1 off beers for fans wearing Padres gear on opening day.
Just around the corner, at 345 Sixth Ave., Mezé Greek Fusion has a cocktail called the Padriño, a combination of Cazadores Silver, fresh watermelon, fresh lime and agave with a Tajín rim for $17. It also has its version of a double play, a Pacifico or Michelob Ultra with a shot of Don Julio Blanco or Crown Royal for $12; or a shot of Don Julio Blanco or Crown Royal paired with any beer for $9.
A more livey scene can be found at El Chingon’s “Bad Ass” Mexican a few step from the popular corner of 5th & Market. For day games its Happy Hour from 2-6 Monday through Friday with $6 house margaritas, $9 “bad ass” micheladas,and rolled tacos and potato tacos for $5. After night games it has late night taco and burrito specials in a festive nightlife atmosphere.
A couple doors down Fifth, Havana 1920 has Happy Hour from 2-6 Mondays through Fridays with Havana Mojito for $7.50; the Havana 1920 Daiquiri at $7.50 and bites including ham and cheese or chicken croquetas, priced at $2; papa rellenas, choice of picadillo stuffed potato or cheese stuffed potato, priced at $3; empanadas, choice of ham and cheese, vegetarian, cubanita or beef, priced at $4; and the bocadito platter, made with ceviche tropical, plantain chips, two chicken croquettes, picadillo stuffed potato and ham and cheese empanada, served with mojo criollo and havana royale sauce, priced at $12. There’s also a reverse happy hour on Fridays, where the same offerings are available from 9 -midnight for post-game revelers.
The upscale Lionfish Modern Coastal Cuisine at Pendry San Diego has Pads Package, an elevated opening day pairing of duck confit nachos topped with cilantro aioli, pickled shallots, cotija cheese and micro cilantro, paired with a bottle of Michelob ULTRA, priced at $25. Lionfish’s full menu will also be available, including its daily selection of oysters served with white balsamic mignonette and lemon, a dozen priced at $39; speciality sushi rolls like the El Maniakz, made with spicy Baja crab, soft shell crab, Tajín seared albacore, avocado, lemon, macha ponzu, chipotle aioli and cilantro, priced at $27; and specialty cocktails such as The Revival made with Belvedere Vodka, St-Germain Elderflower Liqueur, basil syrup, lemon and cucumber juice topped with CHANDON Sparkling wine, priced at $19.
