Classy All-White Pop-Up Dinner Party Returns To L.A.
The pop-up mystery dinner known as Le Diner en Blanc is back in Los Angeles and this year’s event is taking place in September.
The date is Saturday, Sept. 29. The time is evening and the location, well, that will not be revealed until two hours before the first champagne cork is popped.
Le Diner en Blanc is an elegant dinner party that takes place in a TBD public location. Guests – who are required to register in advance – have just two hours to get to the outdoor space. This is not a problem, tho, as they arrive by the busloads from all over Los Angeles.
Last year’s event took place in front of Pasadena City Hall while the previous year it was at a plaza in downtown Los Angeles. So it could be anywhere.
Some 2,000 people go to this event. As the name indicates, everyone dresses in white. They also must bring everything to the dinner: table, chairs, table settings, decorations, silverware, napkins, etc. The venue provides nothing, except for pre-purchased wine and champagne and for those who prefer, a pre-ordered meal.
Tickets are not required but you must register in advance. There are three phases of registration. Phase 1 is for members who attended the previous year; Phase 2 is for new members who are referred by Phase 1 attendees; and Phase 3 is for people who have signed up on the waiting list.

The dinner is outdoor and it is elegant. In some ways it resembles a wedding reception. With a kind of picnic element to it.
People set up their tables in long rows next to strangers and spend about two hours eating, drinking wine/champagne and carrying on conversations. After dinner, they dance to a DJ.
When it’s over, at about 11 o’clock, then the pack up everything leaving nothing behind, not even a discarded napkin.
