The Holidays Are Here In This Los Angeles South Bay Beach City

The holidays have officially arrived in Southern California.
In the Los Angeles beach city of Hermosa Beach, the first sign of it went up in late November, a Christmas tree at the pier. On Saturday, Dec. 1, that tree will be lit up in a ceremony that starts in the afternoon and goes past dark.
The activities start at 3 with bands on a stage, the headliner being very popular local band Jeremy Buck. There are also performances by Jamison Jarvis and Joe Cipolla and other South Bay singers and musicians. Local shops and restaurants will be offering specials all day and there is also a window-decorating contest among the retailers.
It’s part of a “Rock for Tots” charity drive, started by Buck and other local musicians 13 years ago when they performed at the Lighthouse Cafe.
The tree lighting takes place at 6 p.m.
The pier is a lively place for more reasons for the live music and tree lighting. At the same time, the Big 10 Pub Crawl is taking place in Hermosa. This involves some 100 Midwestern transplants and alumni of Big 10 schools who come together and fill up the bars. They meet up at Hennessey’s, split up in groups, then meet up again at the Underground for the Big 10 Championship game, which kicks off at 5 p.m.
North Manhattan Beach Holiday Stroll
The North Manhattan Beach Holiday Stroll is Saturday, Dec. 1, from 5-9 p.m. This is hardly as big (or as good) as the downtown Manhattan Beach Holiday Stroll, but you might find a couple places offering some adult beverages. It takes place on Highland Ave., between 33rd and 40th streets.
