Restaurant-Bar on the Pier Features Fine Dining and Drinks On the Pier And Fresh-Squeezed Margaritas
“La Flacita (Skinny) Margarita.”
“Pineapple Serrano Cilantro Margarita.”
“Margarita De La Casa.”
Watch out for the “Fresh Spicy Mango Margarita,” for the word “spicy” is not hype. It contains jalapeno and lives up to its name.
My favorite is the “Silver Modern Margarita,” Herradura silver tequila, Citronge, organic agave nectar combined with fresh-squeezed limes, lemons and oranges.
These are among the drinks customers will find at Palmillo, the new high-end restaurant and bar on the Hermosa Beach Pier. This is a restaurant first and a bar second; in fact the plan is for it to be nearly exclusively the former about 90% of the time, with the latter coming into focus only after the dinner hours on Friday and Saturday nights.
By its concept and execution, this will never be a whoop-it-up place. Those margaritas – and other high-end drinks – will see to that, because each one is meticulously hand made. They require the bartenders to press and crush the fruits as if they were making mojitos. They are time-intensive drinks and the bartenders simply can not produce them fast enough to satisfy super-thirsty customers.
Of course, those type of customers are well served at any number of other places on the Pier, not the least of which is Sharkeez, which happens to be Palmillo’s creators. So those free-wheeling souls of the South Bay who see a new place open up and exclaim “hey, great, another bar!,” should realize that just because Sharkeez owns it, this is definitely not Sharkeez.
Palmilla is more of a sipping kind of place, and the small patio with the firepit is an excellent place to do just that with friends.
Palmillo more built around its food, and from a sampling held at a VIP party, I can personally vouch for the carne quesadilla. It’s outstanding.
The decor is classy, managing to be both subtle in lighting, but also bright at the same time. There is the patio and tables on either side going to the back. With only about a dozen tables, Palmilla not a high-volume restaurant.
Palmilla is a place for fine dining and drinks on the Hermosa Beach Pier, something that enhances the existing bars and restaurants.
