Things To Do In Los Angeles Include A MDR Harbor Cruise

There’s a lot of things to do in the water in Los Angeles – surfing, swimming, stand-up paddleboarding – but there are also things to do on the water.
One of them is to take a harbor tour of Marina del Rey. Hornblower offers a 45-minute tour of the MDR harbor and channels each Saturday and Sunday this summer. Boats depart at noon, 1:30 p.m., and 3 p.m.

This is a relaxing, inexpensive way to spend part of a day in one of the most overlooked places in L.A. Marina del Rey was once the world’s largest man-made harbor and today it’s the top place in Los Angeles for SUP rentals and has scenic views of beaches and boats.
The cost is just $12 ($10 for military and seniors; $6 for kids ages 4-12). This is a narrated cruise aboard a ship with two passenger levels, including a large top deck.
And while this issn’t exactly a party boat and certainly not a booze cruise, there is a bar with cocktails. There’s champagne ($6), beer ($4-7), wine ($8-11), liquor ($7-9) and speciality drinks ($7).
If you want something more along the above lines, there’s a sunset cocktail cruise for $35. It’s every Wednesday (6:15-8:15) and includes appetizers and drinks for purchase.
Both cruises go all through Marina del Rey – but to keep things smooth, not out in the open ocean – where you’ll see Ballona Creek, Burton Chace park, waterfront homes, yachts and sailboats and marine life such as California sea lions, dolphins, egrets, brown pelicans, and Great Blue herons.
This is a slow-moving, relaxing cruise and at 45 minutes, hardly takes up your whole day to do it. Afterward, take in the free concerts right there in Fisherman’s Village, which happen every Saturday and Sunday from 2-5. There’s even validation for two hours free parking.
There’s also a free shuttle from Playa Vista to MDR.
The tours depart from Fisherman’s Village on Fiji Way in Marina del Rey. There is no outside food or beverage allowed. Strollers and bikes are welcome on board.
Special pricing and midweek tours are available for groups of 20 or larger numbers of people.
