110th Annual Top Holiday Event Features Angles Star Player
Los Angeles Angels slugger Albert Pujols will be its grand marshal on opening night.
This annual event, one of the best holiday boat parades in the world, runs from Wednesday, Dec, 19 thru Sunday, Dec. 23. It starts each night at 6:30 p.m., and goes until approximately 9 p.m. Pujols will be there for the opening evening; the Angels first baseman will be aboard the Ohana Kai II, along with his wife and five children.
Hosted by the Commodores Club of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce, the parade begins with a fireworks display at the Newport Pier at 6:15 p.m. Earlier in the day, a festival takes place in Marina Park, starting at 4:30 p.m., with caricature artists, an LA Chargers football toss competition and food vendors.
Here is a rundown the grand marshals on the other nights of the boat parade:
• Thursday, Dec. 20 – A Salute to Hometown Heroes: Cheer on our local heroes, those first-responders and lifesavers who serve our communities, as they lead the evening’s festivities.
• Friday, Dec. 21 – The Young Americans: The Young Americans is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of understanding and goodwill among people throughout the world. Dubbed as America’s Musical Ambassadors, they use the power of music, dance, performance, academics, and cultural interaction to bring attention to their mission.
• Saturday, Dec. 22 – A Celebration of Christmas Movies and Music with Olive Crest: Children and families of Olive Crest, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing child abuse and treating and educating at-risk children, enjoy the holiday sentiments of family fun, bringing the spirit of Christmas to life.
• Sunday, Dec. 23 – Corona del Mar High School Drum Line: The CdM Drum Line is one of the premiere performing groups at Corona del Mar High School. It serves as a musical ambassador, performing regularly in pep rallies as well as school and community events.
