All Of Orange County Comes Out The Third Weekend of September for This Annual Event
Every area needs it’s “can’t miss, must-do, gotta-be-there” annual event.
In Newport Beach, CA, the upscale community of “the OC” by the sea, it’s the Taste of Newport, a three-day event that is as tasteful as it is tasty, as energetic as it is entertaining.
There is food from dozens of restaurants in Orange County, a stage with name-act bands (Joan Jett and the Blackhearts in 2011 on Friday, followed by the Barenaked Ladies on Saturday and Abba on Sunday), and drinks that include not only beer but margaritas and mojitos. The event is always the third weekend in September and in 2011 it is Sept. 16-18.
But more than anything, the Taste of Newport is about the people that go to the Taste of Newport. It looks like a TV show (and probably is to some degree) with people dressed in their best, seeking to see and be seen. And they all have a great time with the drinks, music and fine food.
The Bar Blogger loves to go on Friday, and that’s because it’s when the singles converge on the area like the swallows returning each year to San Juan Capistrano. It’s an annual gathering so much a part of the DNA of local singles that people ask one another not if they are going to “the Taste” but when they are getting to “the Taste.”
That’s when you know you’ve got a popular, successful event.
