A Free Music & Arts Festival In Downtown Los Angeles
Downtown Los Angeles – or DTLA as it’s hip abbreviation is known because everything hip in L.A., must be abbreviated – is having a free block party on Saturday, Jan. 30.
“Night on Broadway” is an open music festival featuring bands and acts on eight stages covering eight city blocks. Its purpose is to celebrate L.A. City Councilmember José Huizar’s Bringing Back Broadway initiative, a 10-year plan to revitalize the historic Broadway corridor.
The event runs from 5-11 p.m., is open to people of all ages and beer and wine is served in all the theaters. It takes place on Broadway, from 3rd Street to Olympic Blvd.
Here’s event details:
• 25 ACTS ACROSS 8 STAGES: This includes seven historic theaters and an outdoor stage, featuring: Aloe Blacc; OWSLA recording artists; James Fauntleroy; Ozomatli; Rachel Bloom; Mad Decent recording artists; The Lucent Dossier Experience; Rebel Bingo; Zen Arts; Reggie Watts; The Spazmatics; Million Dollar Cabaret; The Clouds Below; and Brendon Small, Shorts fest by NewFilmmakers LA.
• HUNDREDS OF ARTISTS: Three full city blocks and theatre interior rooms filled with art by Think Tank Gallery, Art Share LA, Downtown Art Walk featuring artists Scott Hove, Sheryo and the Yok, Steiner, Teddy Kelly, Evan Weitzberg, Andre Miripolsky and others.
• ACTIVITIES & INTERACTIVE EXPERIENCES: There is free access to historic theaters often closed to the public; a virtual reality lounge; outdoor Chessboxing ring; street art competition; mural garden; projection mapping of a historic building; Two Bit Circus; NOH8 photo shoot; dozens of DTLA businesses; vendors and food trucks; DTLA fashion brands in a special market / exhibition.
