South Bay Scream & Richard Blade Costume Contest On Pier Tops Among Many Events

The place to be this Halloween weekend in the South Bay is Redondo Beach, CA.
Especially on Friday “fright” night.
That’s because there are a lot of things happening, led by the annual South Bay Scream – or the “Portofino Party” for you long-timers – Halloween party at the Portofino Hotel’s banquet and reception building.
This is THE event for South Bay singles. It’s a great party with about a thousand people, a very good ratio of about 50/50 girls and guys, DJs and two dance floors, each with different kinds of music. Tickets are $40 in advance; there might be some at the door but this event typically sells out in advance.

A great warmup to this party is a new event featuring legendary KLOS-FM Richard Blade. He’s hosting a free costume contest on the pier in what is called the “octagon,” that open-space area next to the Fun Zone and down the ramp from Kincaid’s. It goes from 7-9 p.m. There’s no bar there, by the way, but for the summer concerts, a few people did purchase beers from one of the seafood stands and took it to the octagon.
Also that night, Samba restaurant (and when is the last time you went there!?) is having a Halloween party with $3 beers and $4 cocktails.
Naja’s Place, the beer joint, is having a party with special prices on some of its many beers, a costume contest and a band.
And finally that night, the bar at the Portofino Hotel, BALEENKitchen, is having a Halloween-themed party. Do know that there’s a $5 cover here that jumps to $15 if you’re not wearing a costume.
On Halloween night, The Slip Bar & Eatery at the pier is having a haunted trivia night with drink specials and half-priced bottles of wine.
Whew! That’s a lot of events, particularly on Friday night, the first night of Halloween weekend.
