The Ironman, House Parties The Strand & Fireworks In The South Bay

The biggest party day of the year in a big party place is the 4th of July.
The Los Angeles South Bay Beach Cities – led by singles-heavy Hermosa Beach – is one of the best places in the USA to spend Independence Day. And here’s why: there’s a series of events, the highlight of which is house parties along the beachfront walk known as The Strand.
It’s best to look at the 4th in Hermosa as a series of events, with the fireworks taking place in neighboring Redondo Beach. The 4th of July is on a Tuesday in 2017.
The Ironman Hermosa Beach
This is not what you may think. Yes, it’s an athletic competition. People must run a mile in the sand and paddle a mile in the ocean. But then it turns, well, Hermosa Beach unique.

After those first two discipline, then people must chug a 6-pack of beer. That’s right, there’s no long bike ride but a beer-drinking contest. Afterward, a punk band plays and everyone runs around a makeshift mosh pit. Spectators are welcome, the event is free and you can even drink beer on the beach but note the cops are keeping a watchful eye on things so don’t be a fool.
Time: 8-11:30 a.m.
Location: 26th Street on the sand
The Strand Hermosa Beach 4th of July

A long concrete walkway called The Strand runs parallel to the beach with the sand on one side and houses on the other. All day, up and down The Strand tens of thousands of people roam from end to end, often stopping at house parties along the way.
It’s important to note that there are no open containers of alcohol allowed and cops are everywhere.
Time: 1 p.m.-dusk
Location: 2nd Street to 35th Streets

The drinking takes place at the bars and also the dozens of house parties along The Strand and on the side walk streets. These range from a dozen to to dozen people to full ragers with bands.
These are private parties and you must know someone to get into them (and bring your own booze!) unless, of course, you’re a hot girl.
Time: 1 p.m.-dusk
Location: 2nd Street to 35th Streets
Redondo Beach Fireworks
Redondo Beach shoots off a great fireworks display. They are over the ocean and can be seen from anywhere in the South Bay. In Hermosa, people watch from The Strand, house parties or on the beach.
Time: 9 p.m.
Location: King Harbor Marina just south of Hermosa Beach.
Michael Jackson Impersonator Hermosa Beach
When the fireworks are over, there’s one final salute – a Michael Jackson impersonator comes out on the deck of a house on The Strand and does the moonwalk, sings and puts on a cool look-alike show. It lasts for 15-20 minutes and takes place approximately half an hour after the fireworks.
Time: 10 p.m., (sppx).
Location: North of the pier, Hermosa Beach Strand
