KENTUCKY DERBY PARTY

Pretend you are at the Derby – minus the mud wresting in the infield, of course! – by attending Derby Day L.A. It’s a high-end derby part at Saddlerock Racn at Malubu Family Wines on Saturday from Noon-6 p.m.
There are cocktails, a bluegrass band, DJs, Best Hat & Best Dressed contests and, of course, TVs showing the 142nd Running of the Roses. Food trucks will be on site for an extra cost. Don’t worry about driving; there’s a shuttle from the South Bay The price is $150, but Berry Bly is giving a $50 discount on the link below:

If you’re curious about what you’re missing at the Derby, PubClub has a few articles, one from the infield which has been described as “absolute chaos” and a view from the calmer grandstands by original PubClubette “Delicious Dee,” a true blue Kentucky native who on this day becomes “Derby Dee.”

STAR WARS WEDNESDAY
Waterman’s is having a May The Fourth Be With You event on Wednesday. Star Wars movies are playing all day and night and there’s all-day and night drink with space-named cocktails. Also Wednesday is the highly popular country line dancing night at American Junkie.
SAINT ROCKE SOUNDS
The band Barley is playing Happy Hour on Friday and Saturday it’s the David Bowie tribute band Space Oddity.
Speaking of music, Jimmy Buffett is playing KAABOO, the huge music and party festival in San Diego the third weekend of September. He’s also in Sacramento on Oct, 22, leading me to speculate IF he comes back to Irvine Meadows, it will be on Saturday, Oct. 22. So save the date because it it comes true there WILL be a party bus!

ROCKY TIMES AT ROCKY POINT
One of my favorite “secret” locations to have a beer is Rocky Point in King Harbor. For the past year it’s not been able to sell beer and I keep checking it every couple weeks to see if it has its permit. Apparently, we were breaking the law all those years by sitting at those picnic tables looking at boats and sea lions drinking the cheapest beer in the Beach Cities!
