Shade Hotel Party & Panchos Lead Top Party Events In The Beach Cities
Start out in your Derby hat and then switch to your sombrero.
Saturday, May 5 is a double-shot of fun, a mix of champagne followed by margaritas, watching horses followed by horsing around in the Beach Cities.
It’s both the Kentucky Derby and Cinco de Mayo, and this powerful one-two punch makes for a pure party day in the South Bay.
Here’s a rundown of top events and places to be on the first Saturday in May.
Kentucky Derby Party, Shade Hotel Redondo Beach
This is THE place to be for the Derby, not only to party but to see and be seen. Put on by local promoter Berry Bly it’s at the different levels of the bar and will have a high-class crowd with lovely ladies in sun dresses and big hats and even a few of the well-heeled men dressing up in spiffy Derby attire. There’s a $20 cover and it this includes a band, DJ and, of course, plenty of TVs to watch the exciting two minutes of the race at 3:30.

Pancho’s Manhattan Beach Cinco de Mayo
You’re greeted with a mariachi band on the sidewalk and inside you’ll find – depending on when you go – the Laker girls, a live radio remote and a band. Being a Saturday it’s the regular evening of the incredible rock cover band Day of Daze (many members have toured with top rockers including Stevie Nicks & Tom Petty) and I can tell you one thing: it’s going to be wild on Saturday night.
South Bay Bars For Cinco de Mayo
Sharkeez in Hermosa and Manhattan will be having a Cinco-themed party and will also be showing the Golovkin-Martirosyan fight…Saint Rocke isn’t having a Mexican band but Saved By the 90s with cover tunes from Third Eye Blind to the Spice Girls, from The Backstreet Boys and The Beastie Boys.
