What’s Happening In Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach & Redondo Beach
Here’s what’s happening – and will be happening – it the South Bay Beach Cities of Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach & Redondo Beach as we roar into March.
SMACKFEST EVENTS WINE & BEER FESTIVAL
Save the date!!! Saturday, May 14 is the inaugural South Bay Wine & Beer Festival.
Put on my Smackfest Events, it’s a junior version of the highly successful Trump Wine & Beer Festival. That event is such a huge success that Bill Sigler figured we need another one in the South Bay, so he’s created this one to serve good wines and craft beers.
It will be held at Bay Club in Redondo Beach.
Tickets are not yet on sale but PubClub.com will certainly let you know when they are; in the meantime, here’s more about it. This is exciting!

SOUTH BAY BAR HAPPENINGS
The Mermaid has extended its daily Happy Hour to 7 p.m., and added a late-night Happy Hour starting at 10. This is seven days a week…As you know by now, Fenners is closed, making way for a new beach-style bar. Don’t worry folks, it’s still owned by Sharkeez, which knows a thing or two about how to run a fun and successful bar in the South Bay…The Hermosa Beach Yacht Club now has a “Hermosa Mimosa” to go along with its champagne and mimosas for its Sunday night blues jam, which takes place from 6-8 p.m. It’s a splash of guava juice added to the OJ and like the others, is just $3…Next Saturday is the annual Hermosa Beach St. Patrick’s Day parade! Starts at 11 a.m…Next week also is the start of the conference basketball tournaments (UCLA needs to win the Pac-12 and USC needs to make a deep run) which leads into March Madness!
CHEERS TO ‘THE HAWK’
PubClub cannot do this Party Report without giving a small tribute to Lee Reherman, one of the friendliest guys ever to live in the South Bay.
Most people knew him as “Hawk” from American Gladiators but he was more than that – much more. He was that super-friendly guy who was a gentle giant if ever there was one.
He was also smart. He graduated with honors from Cornell University (he played on the football team and had a tryout with the Miami Dolphins) and was in dozens of movies, commercials and TV shows (“X Files” and “Caroline In The City” among them).
PubClub knew him from local parties and the USC-UCLA party buses and passing him on occasion while running on The Strand. He was always so nice and friendly. Not sure what caused it, but there were apparently some complications from a recent hip surgery and it happened fast. Dang.
ROCK & BREWS IN SOUTHWEST TERMINAL AT LAX
To end the Party Report on a positive note, here’s a place where you’ll be making your first stop when you clear security before your Southwest flights to fun party places like Vegas.
Rock & Brews (Gene Simmons & Paul Stanley of KISS, as well as the South Bay’s own Mike Zislas are involved) has opened up at Terminal 1 (on the left, across from the first gates) and it’s a perfect pre-flight party spot for drinks and even food. There’s a couple dozen beers on tap and a full bar with good Bloody Marys and a very nice rum drink.
PubClub was at the press opening on Tuesday and here’s a review from our blogger:
