Redondo Beach 10K, Hermosa Beach Hotspots & House Parties

The most fun place to spend Super Bowl Sunday in Los Angeles for singles – and in the entire country, for that matter – is in the South Bay Beach Cities.
Between the bars and house parties there’s an overall festive atmosphere, with enough transplanted fans from the cities of whatever two teams are playing to add some cheering spice but most people caring only to socialize.
And the South Bay adds one other element to the day that makes it so much fun. One that is unique to any city anywhere on this day, and that is the Super Bowl 10K in Redondo Beach.
Super Bowl Sunday in 2015 is Feb. 7.
Beer Garden Is The Day’s Biggest Super Bowl Party
It’s not just that it’s a 10K, which is a great way to start the day from a health standpoint because of all the junk food we eat at parties, but because it’s such a blast. The true character of the South Bay characters comes out at the 10K.
For instance, there are the costumes. Yes, just about every 10K has girls running in tu-tus, but what about a group dressed up as fish who often reverse course, going against the crowd, as they are “swimming” upstream? Or people pushing boom boxes and stopping along the way to enjoy a beer (or two)?

And yet as festive as the run itself is – and gorgeous, too, for it goes down palm tree-lined Catalina Ave., through Riviera Village and along the Esplanade with a full view of the Pacific Ocean – it’s afterward where the fun factor really comes into play.
That is because at the finish line, there is a beer garden! And not just any beer garden, but one in a lagoon surrounded by sand. Runners get a couple of free Michelob Ultra beers and when the sun is blasting away as it was in 2015, it turns into a huge beach party.
It’s ridiculously easy to meet people because everybody is in a great mood.
From there, the rest of the day is just gravy. An extra point on the perfect touchdown drive.
There’s still four hours to go until kickoff when the beer garden breaks up, but once you’ve started drinking beers, it’s pointless to stop. Several people make a stop up the street at the VFW,then down to one of Hermosa Beach’s classic dive bars, Hermosa Beach Yacht Club.
There, you can fuel up for the day with a delicious and massive burger (be sure and get it with HBYC chips!).

Then there are more bars, and Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach have several. All one has to do is go to the Hermosa Pier and find fun in spots like Sharkeez, Fenner’s, Molloy’s and Waterman’s.
Or in Manhattan Beach’s Pier at Shellback Tavern, Shark’s Cove and Ercoles, or Sharkeez and OB’s in North Manhattan.
On the Redondo Beach Pier PubClub.com suggest The Slip Bar & Eatery.
If you get lucky – or chat people up in the beer garden – you may get invited to a Super Bowl party. This is one of the few times of the year there are several of them in the South Bay. Once a staple of the Beach Cities singles scene, house parties have become as rare as safeties. But not on Super Bowl Sunday; they are all over the place in Hermosa, Manhattan & Redondo Beach.
It all makes for a long, full day. But also one of the best of the year in the South Bay.
