Interior Enhancements Coming In 2017 And Is To Include A New Bar

After updating its rooms, the Portola Hotel & Spa in Monterey, CA, is now renovating its lobby and conference center.
Part of it includes a new bar. Currently it has Jack’s, a nice lounge adjacent to the lobby which is complemented by a fine-dining restaurant in the hotel.
During the renovation, it’s good to note that Jack’s will still be open for dinner and Happy Hour daily from 4-6 p.m. ($3 bottled beer, $4 wines & wells, $6 barrel-aged cocktails). The lounge is closed during the remodel.
The new lobby will feature extensive use of wood complimented by lighted pendants in 25-foot lobby fichus trees, as well as comfortable lobby seating.
The cost for the lobby renovation is projected at $6 million. At the same time, construction of a new $3.5 million entrance plaza and 40,000 square foot Monterey Conference Center is also taking place.
All three projects are scheduled for completion in April, 2017. During the renovation process, the hotel will remain open for business.
“The ongoing and future property renovations are part of our commitment to our guests, to offer an exceptional stay in one of the most beautiful ocean-side destinations on the California coast,” said Janine Chicourrat, General Manager of the property.
“We’ve taken cues from the modern aesthetic tone set by the adjacent conference-center renovation, but have also set the hotel apart by creating a resort-like atmosphere and a strong sense of place consistent with hotel’s setting adjacent to Monterey Bay, “ said Chief Creative Officer, Rob Polacek of San Francisco-based Puccini Group, which is the interiordesign partner for the lobby.
“The coastal Monterey landscape, wildlife and local artist community had a tremendous influence on our design and materials palette.”
In addition to the current upgrades, the Portola has recently completed a $10 million full renovation of all its 379 rooms.
The Portola Hotel & Spa is located at 2 Portola Plaza in Monterey. This is at the end of downtown’s Alvarado Street and Fisherman’s Village, a couple of miles from Cannery Row.
