$1 Pizza Too, On Thirsty Thursdays At This SD Bar

Red solo cup,
Fill it up,
Let’s have a party!
And so it is every Thursday night at American Junkie in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter. That is when the bar, in the heart of lively Fifth Ave., has its dollar beers night.
That’s right, dollar beers. $1. And not just the cheap stuff, either, like Bud Light or Coors Light, but every beer the bar serves on tap. That includes such premiums as Stella, 805 and Red Trolly.
Talk about a #thirstythursday.
And they are all served in red solo cups. 12-ouncers.
The deal lasts just for two hours – 9-11 p.m., and there’s no cover change but don’t forget your i.d. – and it brings in a crowd. It starts out light but is pretty much packed by 10 o’clock. And, of course, it’s what those in advertising call a good “lost leader,” meaning it successfully draws in people and then keeps them there to spend more money when the prices increase once the special expires.
The crowd, as you might expect when dollar beers are involved, is largely male. In fact, it’s at least 80% guys. Oh, there are certainly easy-on-the-eyes girls roaming around but mostly what you will find are men in their mid-20s to mid-30s, hanging around (and doing nothing stupid, as well could be the case with people downing dollar beers) with a few playing beer pong. Using red solo cups.
Many are waiting for the girls to arrive after the beer special ends. After all, girls know when a place is ripe to show up to, and on the heels of dollar beers is primetime.
Oh, and slices of pizza are also $1. All day.
I love you red solo cup
I’ll lift you up,
Let’s have a party!
PubClubber’s Tips: Get there by 10:30 or you will likely wait in a line. For those wanting bottle service, that is available with a booth.
