Quartyard In The Gaslamp Quarter A Unique All-Outdoor Nightlife Destination

By Kevin Wilkerson, PubClub.com San Diego Blogger
A dog park in a bar in a city’s downtown area is different onto itself, but Quartyard has one other feature that makes it stand out even in the nightlife-crowded area of San Diego’s Gaslamp.
It has headsets for people to listen to the DJ. Put them on and you can hear the music; otherwise you only hear the sounds of conversations.
Certainly, Quartyard is not the only bar in the world that utilizes this cool system; a bar in Brazil does this with several DJs. You choose the DJ you want to listen to and it’s a good conversation-starter to ask to others about their musical tastes.
But it’s different here in San Diego and – dog pun intended – it puts Quartyard a leg up on a few other places in the area.
Quartyard located at Market and 13th, Quartyard is an all-outdoor space with taps of craft beer at a long bar and picnic tables to the side. At first glance, it looks like a beer garden for sitting and sipping speciality brews. But it also has a full bar and a small fenced-in area with green astroturf where people bring their dogs to play.
It has food, too. I have yet to have any of it but the burgers look to be pretty hearty.
In addition to the bar, it hosts popular concerts, events and festivals such as a sake festival. These are ticketed events with ticket prices usually starting at around $35.
I was there on a Saturday afternoon and the crowd was light, so unless there’s an event it does not not appear to be a wild party place. Few places are in the daytime here, and the DJ headphones system provides something funky that allows you to tune in – or tune out –your surroundings.
