Local Bicycling Organization Encouraging People To ‘Love To Ride San Diego’
There are rides along bays, the ocean, scenic leisurely trails and challenging terrain with hills. And with the San Diego weather, well, there’s no excuse for not being outside on a bike.
May is San Diego Bike Month and a local organization has arranged for a series of rides. The San Diego Bike Coalition and Love to Ride San Diego offer a series of riding challenges for solo or pod rides.
Here is a list of the events with links providing details of each one:
-
May 1: Bike Month Kick-Off (Prize raffle and special guests)
-
May 2: Gordy Shields Memorial Ride (self-guided)
-
May 2 – 8: New Rider Week Challenge
-
May 9 – 15: Family Ride Week Challenge
-
May 16 – May 22: SANDAG Bike Anywhere Week Challenge

It is free to join and free to participate. Each challenge has its own rules and eligibility criteria.
“Over the past year, we’ve watched a boom in biking throughout the region as people were eager to find safe, socially distanced ways to enjoy the outdoors,” said Bike Coalition Executive Director Andy Hanshaw. “This year’s Bike Month will celebrate the many strides we’ve made toward safe biking in our communities.”
San Diego County Bicycle Coalition is a nonprofit organization that advocates for and protects the rights of all people who ride bicycles. They promote bicycling as a mainstream, safe and enjoyable form of transportation and recreation.
