Bub’s at the Beach, the long-running Pacific Beach bar that is now closed, will become Bar Ella.
Backed by The Verant Group, which owns Mavericks and Sandbar in PB, as well as the well-run and popular barleymash in San Diego’s Gaslamp, it will be owned by former Bub’s patron Krista Barrella, who previously has been General Manager at Tavern at the Beach. The name is a play on Barrella’s last name.
“For me, (Bub’s) was the spot when I was in my early twenties,” Barrella told Fox 5 News. “My girlfriends and I would come here every ‘Wing Wednesday.’”
Bar Ella will be more “upscale” than the relaxed sports bar atmosphere of Bub’s. In hospitality parlance it’s called “an elevated experience.”
“I think that we can provide a service that hits both dining (and) social hour,” Barrella said. “I want to combine the two really well.”
The revamping of Bub’s into Bar Ella is underway with an anticipate opening in the fall.
Also coming to PB this summer – and this is a PubClub.com exclusive – is a San Diego version of Tower 12 beach lounge that is so popular up the coast in Hermosa Beach. Tower 12 is also the regular home of PubClub’s live video podcast, PubClub LIVE!
Stay tune on those details.
