Burgers, Bait & Beer Is A Little Shack To Love On The South Embarcadero
There is now a place on San Diego Bay where you can roll up on your bike, in your running shoes or even with your dog on a leash.
You don’t have to see a hostess for seating or hope you arrive at Happy Hour to get a cheap beer.
It’s a little shack to love (get it, Love Shack?) called Burgers, Bait & Beer and it’s located on a newly-manicured area of the South Embarcadero, next to the Shell amphitheater, which was built for the summer shows of the Diego Symphony and other concerts (all canceled this year due to the coronavirus pandemic).
Well, you’ll love it instantly if you like sitting outside, drinking cheap beers and watching boats bounce along the bay in front of you. There’s food – burgers, hotdogs, tacos and ice cream – as well as bait and tackle for fishing off the pier. Personally, the only fishing I do is for compliments.
Best of all, the beer is just 5 bucks a bottle and $7.50 for a draft. A Michelada is $9.95 for a pint.
Seating is at tables on a small outdoor patio and there’s cool music, as light as the breeze, playing on a speaker. Tunes include classic soft rock, popular songs from the 50s for a kind of a “Happy Days” flashback (no sightings of The Fonz tho) and even Frank Sinatra. Frank Sinatra!
The burgers, the owner tells me, are great. They are made with ground sirloin steak and the Mexican offerings – fresh ceviche tostada; carne asada, carnitas and shrimp tacos – all look very appetizing. The latter are served only on weekends.
Burgers Bait & Beer is open daily from 10 a.m.-sunset. It’s located at 200 Marina Park Way.
You may not remember the name of it but after you’re there once you will easily recall the place and its location.
