This Hawaiian Legend On the Bars Blogger’s Bucket List of Top Party Places

But unless you’ve actually been, it’s hard to imagine.
Duke’s on Sunday is one of the best bars in the world, certainly one of the best bar days anywhere.
It’s everything you could imagine it to be – right on the beach, kicked-back and casual crowd, people seeming to surf right up into the place on the slow-rolling waves out the open-air doors with Diamond Head watching in the distance.
Add to that a mix of a mingling crowd, Hawaii legend Henry Kampono playing on the lanai (patio; the “Duke’s on Sunday” song that Buffett covers is actually a Kampono original) and the set ending just as the day does with a spectacular sunset and, well, it’s a little piece of heaven on earth.

The tables are full – to get one, have a late lunch there so you’re seated by 2 o’clock – and so is the big lanai (patio) on the beach level and also the side lanai by the bar.
It’s so good that even locals make a point to go there, a regular part of their weekly party routine. And that’s saying something considering Duke’s is the #1 tourist spot in Waikiki Beach.
It’s so good that any trip to Hawaii is pretty much pointless unless it includes Duke’s on Sunday (well, for us fun party people, anyway!).
See ya at Duke’s.
Especially on a Sunday.
