It Has The Top Party School, Tons of Bars on 6th Street, Grand Music Festivals And Fun People

When people ask me about Austin, I tell them this: If you can’t have fun here you might as well lock your door and never leave the house because you can’t have fun anywhere!
Why?
Let PubClub.com list the reasons:
1.) The University of Texas is PubClub.com’s #1 Party School.

2.) Lake Travis. Anyone who has been there for Memorial Day or Labor Day Weekend understands. And it doesn’t even have to be a holiday to be a party. And that’s not all, for there is a second water area, Lake Austin, on which sits a great Happy Hour or weekend afternoon bar, Hula Hut.

3.) 6th Street. “Mom, dad, I was at the Library last night!” Of course, in Austin, the Library is a bar on 6th Street. And for those who have already graduated, there’s another cool section of the street that’s for the 30 somethings. When it comes to nightlife, Austin has everything!
4.) Music Festivals. South by Southwest each March is the city’s highlight and Austin City Limits is the end of September. They are great bookends to an awesome music scene.
5.) Fun People. Because they are having fun, they want you to have fun. Nobody has an attitude – even at the nicer bars and clubs – making any trip to Austin a memorable experience.
It’s such a great place that if you can’t have fun in Austin, you might as well lock your door and never leave the house because you can’t have fun anywhere!
It’s that kind of town.
I first learned of Austin being such a great party town when a friend needed to go someplace in order to gain elite status on an airline. He called the airline and asked what was the cheapest place he could go that would earn him the required mileage and was told Austin.

He wasn’t really looking forward to it, only because he knew nothing about it. And, at the time, neither did I. Three days later he came back with an “Oh my GOSH” story about how much fun he had and what a great place it is, and we both were sold on Austin.
My first trip to there occurred when another friend invited me there for Memorial Day Weekend. Our destination was the boat tie-up party in a place called Lake Travis. We warmed up for it by spending a night on 6th Street. One friend was already there in a bar and handed me a Shiner Bock. He’s not generally that quick to hand over beers, but then I learned it was only $2.
All night!
And that turned out to be the “expensive” place. At the Library, beers were a buck. At Maggy May’s, everything was $2, so we were buying shots for girls like we were on Spring Break.
Then came Lake Travis and oh, my that is some scene! Boats tie up in rows at Devil’s Cove and you swim from party to party. There are houseboats with kegs and DJs, and everyone is welcome aboard.

Suffice to say the one-two combination of 6th Street and Lake Travis, with the Hula Hut thrown in for good measure (I met a girl there I instantly referred to as my future wife, but unfortunately that did not pan out quite as I had hoped. So I’m running her picture to let her know I’m still interested!), makes Austin one of my favorite party cities in the USA.
What’s also on the list? New Orleans, of course!
