Bands And The Stella Artois Beer Garden Bring Out The Belmont Shore Singles

Here’s why I like sailing and people who sail.
Those who sail like to party!
Take, for instance, the organizers of the Congressional Cup. This is an annual event that takes place in Long Beach, CA. It features some of the world’s top skippers in America’s Cup-style racing. In fact, in this year of the America’s Cup, it’s LA’s version of that most famous of all sailboat races.
They hold it off the Belmont Pier where the boats get to close to it you swear they are going to hit the darned thing. They make the viewing free to the public. Heck, they even let you park for free and take you out to the end of pier in a golf cart!
But that’s not all, not by a long shot. They make it a party.
On Friday and Saturday after the day’s sailing is done, there is a band on the pier, a Stella Artois beer garden and booths of food. It’s a festival, a celebration, and you can bet all the young and fun people of adjacent Belmont Shore love it.
You drink and dance out in the open, under the sun, then during the sunset and eventually under the stars. And it, too, is free! (Well you buy your food and drinks, of course.)
This is the perfect warm-up to next week’s Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach IndyCar race, the city’s biggest party of the year.
The Congressional Cup racing takes place from noon-5 p.m., with the party on the pier starting immediately afterward and going until 10 p.m.
Saturday, it’s the finals with the final two skippers and crew battling it out between 2:30-4 p.m.
Then it’s time for all to celebrate!
Cheers!
