Mint Juleps And Margaritas: It’s a Hat Trick Of Fun Partying Events To Kick Off May

Get on your party hats, it’s the first weekend of May.
And you’ll have to change those party hats depending on the day. Saturday, it’s Derby hats for the annual Running of the Roses, the Kentucky Derby.
Sunday, it’s sombreros for Cinco de Mayo, the gringo’s celebration of Mexican independence.
And if you are in New Orleans, it’s both days and any kind of crazy hat you can find because it’s the final weekend of Jazzfest!
At the same time, your drinking has to be as diversified as your wardrobe: mint juleps and bourbon for the Derby, margaritas and tequila for Cinco de Mayo and, well, beer is best for Jazzfest.

Of these three, if you could only be at one, I would suggest the Kentucky Derby. A participant once described it to PubClub.com as “absolute chaos.” There’s a mud wrestling pit (ladies only!), beer bongs before breakfast and a hundred thousand people partying it up all the way past post time.
What you could do is hit Jazzfest the previous week, stop off in Nashville for a couple of days during the week and visit the downtown honky tonks, and arrive in Louisville on Friday for prime party time. And then Sunday, put on a sombrero and go to a cantina (though those are hard to find in Louisville so you may have to move on elsewhere, like catch a flight to Los Angeles and party that day in Hermosa Beach).
