NFL Hermosa Beach Bars, Redondo Beach Lobster Festival & Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair

By Kevin Wilkerson, PubClub.com Blogger & South Bay Resident
Welcome to the PubClub.com South Bay Party Report!
The PubClub Party Report is brought to you by Kona Brewing Company; look for it on tap at American Junkie, Waterman’s Safe House, Shade Hotel and Shellback Tavern and in bottles at grocery, liquor and drug stores throughout the South Bay.

This is your “look ahead event” edition, with a list of upcoming events. I’m doing this now because there likely won’t be a Party Report the next couple of weeks because I’ll be out of the country. In Taiwan and Thailand, to be exact. I’ll be gone right up until Hometown Fair, and I’m not sure I’ll be able to do the Party Report while I’m gone (tho if I do, then I’ll provide a different perspective of things!). Also, please don’t call or text me until I return.
It’s my first trip over there and frankly, I’m only mildly excited about it. Why? Well, I explain it here in this Thailand travel singles guy’s post.
Then again, maybe I’m just being too paranoid and need to relax and enjoy it. And if you don’t see me in the Hometown Fair beer garden, it likely means I liked it so much I stayed until my ticket expires in mid-October! I’ll likely be doing a couple blog posts from there, and certainly posting pics.
And while I’m gone the South Bay carries on, of course! Here’s what’s happening this weekend and the next couple of weeks in Hermosa, Manhattan & Redondo Beach.
FRIDAY: PARTY BUS WITH BARLEY BAND TO KAABOO!
A few seats are left for this once-in-a-lifetime (okay, once-in-a-whenever but why take a chance?) event, riding a party bus with a band to its performance at a major music festival! It’s Friday, Sept. 16 with the South Bay’s own Barley Band at KAABOO in Del Mar. That’s the same day Jimmy Buffett plays! The bus is just $24 R/T and tickets to KAABOO are $119. Sign up for the bus on the Barley Band website.
SATURDAY: PRANK MONKEY & SMACKFEST PUB CRAWL
It’s the end-of-summer volleyball classes pub crawl, put on by Prank Money & Smackfest Events at the Hermosa Beach Pier. It starts at Sharkeez and includes five bars, and each will have different games (flip cup, beer pong, field goal flick, etc.). This is a team coed event, and you enter as a team. Or you can sign up as an individual. It’s $40 for a team, $15 for an individual “and all costs go toward BEER!” says Smackfest Events.
RSVP to Chris of Prank Monkey: [email protected].
SATURDAY: SEATTLE INVASION OF HERMOSA BEACH
The first affects of the LA Rams moving to L.A., is going to be felt in the South Bay this weekend as hundreds of Seahawks fans are coming in for the game and many of them will be roaming the Hermosa Pier on Saturday. So this is an alert to bar owners, bar managers and bar patrons to be prepared! I watched the team’s last-second win over Miami last week at Hennessey’s and can tell you that Seahawks fans are loud and loyal.
So Saturday is going to be a fun day at the pier!
NFL GAME-WATCHING BARS IN HERMOSA BEACH
Many of you saw me walking in and out of the bars around the pier on Sunday and were wondering why I wasn’t sticking around, only to reappear. Well, folks, that’s called doing PubClub.com research! I was scouting out the bars where transplanted fans go to watch their NFL teams. There were people out rooting for the Bears, Colts, Cowboys, Eagles, Lions, Patriots, Raiders, Rams (who didn’t even play until Monday nite and BOY did they look awful!), Seahawks and just about every NFL team.
Here’s what I discovered.

JOE MIDDLER & JOE’S BAND – THE VIDEO INTERVIEW
Check out this video interview I conducted with Joe Middler about what’s happening now with Joe, his gigs (and free wine/beer/food at Bay Club!) and a few reflections back on the good ‘ol party days of Joe’s Band.
SOUTH BAY OKTOBERFEST TICKETS
Don’t miss out on this event because it WILL sell out – an oompha-style party at Bay Club put on by Smackfest Events & Berry Bly. The party is Saturday, Rocktober 8.

REDONDO BEACH LOBSTER FESTIVAL
This annual event is always the end of September and this year’s dates are Sept. 23-25. And the bands are awesome: Graceband on Friday followed by the Beatles vs. Stones and the ever-locally popular Pine Mountain Logs on Saturday. It takes place in Seaside Lagoon, easy biking distance from all over the South Bay.
Tickets (not including the lobsters) are $15.

OLD HOMETOWN FAIR & BEER GARDEN
On of the top events in the South Bay is Oct. 1-2, the Hometown Fair beer garden in Manhattan Beach!
Technically, this is a fair, kind of like Fiesta Hermosa, but in reality it’s all about the beer garden for the South Bay singles. It’s so popular that people who used to live here come back to the South Bay for it. Unlike Fiesta Hermosa there’s no band in this beer garden; here it’s all about socializing.
Saturday is the big day and as always, I advise you to be there by 1 p.m.!

By the way, Barley will be at the Lighthouse for its regular first-Saturday show on Oct. 1, 4-8 p.m., so if you’re looking to rock out after the beer garden, head to this show!
BUCCANEER DAYS, CATALINA

It’s always the first of Rocktober dilemma: Buccaneers Days or Hometown Fair beer garden!? Either way, you win and here’s a look at what it’s like on Two Harbors for the annual pirates and wenches beach bash.
Some of the outfits at this thing are incredible; makes you think you are in the middle of real pirates and wenches. Of course, you must take the ferry for Buccaneer Days. Or have a friend with a boat. Arrrgggggg!

OUT AND ABOUT IN THE SOUTH BAY BARS
Look for the openings soon of Tower 12 (formerly Fenner’s) on the Hermosa Pier and the bars of Shade Hotel in Redondo Beach. Both are happening very, very soon. In fact, Shade is hosting a Rams game-watching party on Oct. 2 (against Phoenix) with Rams legends. This is a ticketed event, $100 with two drinks and food, $200 for an open bar….Another new bar, Laurel, is being constructed inside the former Game Changers location…In Manhattan, Shark’s Cove is about to become Palmilla as the Sharkeez brand continues to expand in the South Bay…Seats for the PubClub.com Jimmy Buffett Party Bus – Oct. 22 at Irvine Meadows – are filling up fast so reserve your seat!
