For this and more, Lake Travis in Austin, Texas is one of America’s top party destinations for Memorial Day Weekend.
Lake Travis is a boat tie-up party where rows of boats of all shapes and styles tie up in rows. You grab a drink and swim from boat to boat, climbing aboard and partying with a group of strangers (soon to be new friends).
There are also houseboats, and those are the real party machines. Some have DJs on board and it’s what the pool parties in Vegas strive to be like, but this is the real deal.
The party place is a place called Devil’s Cove, and its an aquatic version of a Jimmy Buffett concert tailgate party.
After an afternoon of fun the sober skippers pull up anchor and head for Carlos ‘n Charlies, a Texas-sized bar on the water. Frankly, by the time I got to Carlos ‘n Charlie’s things were a bit of a blur. A very fun blur, mind you, but it was like speed dating when I was talking to girls.
One night, we went to Jimmy Fin’s, a bar I actually like better but it’s a lot calmer than Carlos ‘n Charlies. So I like the action at the latter more, but frankly, that’s just a bonus on the rest of the day.
So Memorial Day at Lake Travis is fun, and with a town like Austin on its outskirts, should you expect anything else!?
