The biggest worldwide celebration of the year is, without question, New Year’s Eve.
This article focuses on public celebrations and fireworks shows because those are the best places to be for NYE. You’re in a large group of party people, the energy is everywhere and when its midnight and the fireworks begin, you can celebrate with tens of thousands in a happy moment. Afterward, these places have awesome nightlife. It’s a heck of a way to start the new year.
With all that in mind, here is a rundown of this year’s hottest New Year’s Eve party destinations around the world from Sydney to Sin City. They are listed in alphabetical order. Links provide more specific details to certainl locations.
New Year’s Eve In Berlin – Brandenburg Gate ‘Party Mile’
For decades, there was a huge fireworks party at Brandenburg Gate. How huge? There were about 20 different live music performances. After COVID, it was replaced by a smaller celebration on Pariser Platz. Still tens of thousands decend on the area, which is what Berlin Tourism describes as “a party mile.” This year’s music line-up includes the DJ duo Vize, pop singer Ella Endlich, Italo-Schlager band Roy Bianco & Die Abbrunzati Boys and the Irish tap dance show Riverdance.
The bummer is that the event is no longer free and you can’t take your own alcoholic beverages. Tickets are only 10 Euros. tho, and are available at Myticket.de.
New Year’s Eve In Las Vegas
Sin City goes all out for New Year’s Eve as it lauches a bam-bam-bam-bam fireworks show off of eight hotels one right after another. Tens of thousands of people are on and around the Strip, all with drinks in hand and then, of course, there’s all the bars and nightclubs of Vegas. Some bars drop their cover charges, or significantly reduce them, after midnight. There’s a second, smaller event downtown at the Fremont Street Experience. There are bands and DJs in a blocked-off area and it’s 50 bucks get into it. The bigger party by far is on the Strip.

New Year’s Eve In New Orleans
For a no-worries New Year’s Eve all-out party experience, there is New Orleans. I have been there – including for the Sugar Bowl two times, tho memories are a bit faded from the first time due to several lost brain cells – and can tell you it’s awesome. There’s a reason they call it the Big Easy. It’s a big-time party and easy to find the party.
Start the evening on Bourbon Street, either at a slushy drink bar, into a bar where there’s 3-for-1 drinks untiil 7 o’click or just grab a “Big Ass Beer” from a street vendor. You can take your drinks to go, so pop into some beads shops, chat with other people, listen to bands, wander through the French Quarter, etc. Around 11, wiht a full drink (or two) in hand, head to Jackson Square, scene of the gathering for the fireworks over the Mississippi. After the fireworks, casually make your way back to Bourbon Street.
Most places won’t have a line or even a cover charge, tho it will take some time to get into the most reknowned place, and home of the Hurricane drink, Pat O’Brien’s.

New Year’s Eve In New York City
New York City is the world’s most famous and recognized New Year’s Eve celebration. It’s broadcast on TV, has a celebrity doing the countdown and of course the famous ball drop in Times Square. Yes, it’s cold, crowded, you’ve got to get there about four hours before midnight and it’s tough to get a drink within the Times Square area. But it’s also a point of pride to say you’ve been to New York City for New Year’s Eve. After it’s over, you may be saying to yourself and friends either “that was awesome!,” or “okay I did it.”

New Year’s Eve in Rio de Janeiro
A warm-weather party destnation for New Year’s Eve is Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Live music starts at 8 p.m., and the mometum build as the tide of people swell like the ocean coming ashore. By the time its done, some three million people are on or around the beach. The fireworks begins at midnight and last for about 15 minutes non-stop. Copacabana Beach has the biggest show – and party scene – but there fireworks shows all over the city (Lagoa, Flamengo, Barra, to name a few of the areas).
New Year’s Eve In Sydney – Opera House Fireworks
The world’s first big New Year’s Eve celebration takes place in Australia at the Sydney Opera House. This huge show is over Harbor Bridge and people line up around the harbor and then flood the fun little pubs in the part of town known as The Rocks. All day, the long and lively Opera Bar in front of the Opera House is buzzing with activity, excitement and party-minded people
New Year’s Eve In The Caribbean (Jost Van Dyke, British Virgin Islands)
Another warm weather beach destination for New Year’s Eve is the Caribbean. Specifically, the British Virgin Islands. You’ll pretty much need to charter a live-aboard sailboat to do it right, but in the days leading up to the New Year, you island hop to the different bars on the various islands. After sunset on New Year’s Eve, all boats head to Jost Van Dyke where Foxy’s bar has a NYE party that is legendary througout the Caribbean. There’s the beach in front of you, a jammin’ bar and a band in the back.
