The biggest nightlife night of the year is Dec. 31, and if you don’t want to miss the party, then keep reading this post.

This is where to really party, where you can let your hair down and join tens of thousands of others in a celebration you will remember for decades.

So pop some champagne – or heck, whatever you will be drinking that night – and get ready to be taken around the world to the best on what New Year’s Eve has to offer.

• New Orleans

Why so high on this international list, you ask? Because the Big Easy is easy to have a great time on NYE. It’s casual, you don’t have to spend a fortune just to go into a bar – heck with all you can find to drink on Bourbon Street and around the French Quarter you don’t even need to go into a bar, there’s a fireworks show over the mighty Mississippi and college students and fun party-minded alumni are in town for the Sugar Bowl. Nuff said.

• Sydney

The first major city to celebrate New Year’s Eve has a massive open-block party with fireworks over Harbor Bridge. The Opera Bar by the Sydney Opera House is awesome the other 364 days a year and it absolutely explodes with a party atmosphere on the 365th.

• Berlin

Brandenburg Gate in Berlin explodes with fireworks on New Year’s Eve.

Nearly a million people gather at the Brandenburg Gate for a fireworks-watching block party. Now if you can’t find a party among a million people just stay home.

• Las Vegas

Viva Las Vegas! Of course a place that goes by the nickname of Sin City has a big NYE bash. If you’re a high-roller partier, go to one of the mega nightclubs with a world touring DJ. If you’re a budget partier, grab a drink (there’s no open-container law in Vegas) and join the tens of thousands of people o the Strip for the fireworks show over the casinos.

• New York City

It’s cold, its crowded and getting a drink is next to impossible at the bars around Times Square but come on, it’s the most famous NYE celebration in the world and you’ve got to experience it one time in your life. Related post: Details on the Ryan Seacrest NYE broadcast from Times Square.

• Rio

Here, you get to be on a beach(Copacabana Beach) with a lot of party-passionate Brazilians who are really just warming up for Carnival.

• Key West

The Conch Republic has both a wench drop and a high-heel drop. Start out with the sunset ritual on Mallory Square, then hit Duval Street. The party will come to you.

• Foxy’s Bar, The Caribbean

On and island in the middle of the rich, blue Caribbean Sea sits a party, an oasis of fun and revelry. This is a legendary NYE party spot in the British Virgin Islands, or the BVIs.

• Amsterdam

Go out in the streets at midnight and drink champagne! The best places to party are the two public squares, the Leidesplein and the Rembrandtsplein.

• Prague

Be in Letna Park for a high view of the fireworks or be down in the city’s streets.
