This is a look at fun things to do and events on the weekend of Rocktober 22-24, with a particular emphasis on the Los Angeles Beach Cities & San Diego.
But before I jump into looking ahead, I would first like to look back to last week’s rockin’ events! By the way, as I read this the Internet station RadioTropRock.com, is playing a song called “This Beer Is Making Me Awesome.” Haha.
Rocktoberfest Tribute Bands Festival Redondo Beach
I was back in the South Bay and spent the weekend at Rocktoberfest, the tribute band festival in Redondo Beach. Soul Cole, PubClubette Ashley and I did several live shots for PubClub LIVE!, and I was blown away by some of the bands.
Really the effort the bands go through in order to put on a show is what got my attention the most. Kissed Alive stands out in particular for how they took the real KISS band to heart with the costumes (did you see those 1-foot-high platform shoes on “Gene Simmons!?), the flashing KISS sign behind the drummer and all it’s overall showmanship. Wow! I was also somewhat shocked to learn Queen Nation has been doing this for 14 years. Another wow!

Agave Azul Hermosa Beach For The South Bay Chargers Fan Club
Does “blown away” describe how we felt about the bar and the atmosphere at Agave Azul on Hermosa Ave., for the South Bay Super Chargers fans game-watching party?! Everything was top notch: the hospitality, the atmosphere and the bar restaurant’s food & drinks.
I loved the margarita, which was light and and refreshing with a different flavor that I did not recognize (who cares, it was great!) and the Bloody Mary was out-STANDING. PubClubette Ashley really enjoyed her Moscow Mule. And as a bonus, the Cazadores tequila team was on hand to hand out free shots – what could be better?
Well, the Chargers could have won but as I told group leader Tony, the PubClub cheers is “Win Or Lose, We Booze!”
The bar is beautiful and it’s a great place to go at other times and is one of the hot Hermosa Beach nightlife spots on weekends. The Chargers have a bye this week and next play New England on – get this – Halloween! Kickoff for that game is 1 p.m.

Fantasy Fest In Key West Starts This Week
Put this on your party events bucket list. FantasyFest is a full week of an all-out Halloween party with events in the bars, a parade and quite a few things you have to experience for yourself. Maybe just put it in your mental calendar for next year but if you really want to party for Halloween, get to this event.

Cheap Drinks In San Diego’s Bars
Keep this in mind if you’re ever in America’s Finest City. Local promoter Brian Levingston puts on events around town, two of which are weekly ones at a pair of Gaslamp bars. One is EDM Wednesday nights at Toro (5th Ave., & G Street) and rolls in party buses from Pacific Beach. Drinks are just $5 from 9-10. No cover, either.
The second one is at a place people in the LA Beach Cities are familiar with, American Junkie. Yes, there’s one here and the manager even worked at the Hermosa location. Thursdays are dollar beer nights. Yes, dollar beers! That goes from 9-10 p.m., and that’s followed by a DJ and dancing. Like at Toro there’s no cover charge. I do recommend arriving by 9:30 to avoid a long line (and why would you not arrive right at 9 to max out on the dollar beers!?)
Halloween Parties
Looking on the horizon, Halloween and the associated parties are hiding just around the corner. Last week I made a mistake and put the location for Berry Bly’s bash at Shade Redondo when it’s actually Shade Mahattan.

The Great Pumpkin Beer Festival San Diego Gaslamp Block Party
This wild event is scheduled for next Saturday, Rocktober 30. Beers, tribute bands and more beer! I will be posting an article on how to win two VIP tickets! In the meantime, here’s an article about the event:
