As we’re into November, this means we’ve got Halloween over the shoulder and now we’re starting to think about all the holiday events. And because they seem to suddenly sneak up on us – for instance, they start next week! – this Party Report provides a list of dates of the main events. WEDNESDAY WINE NIGHT AT BAY CLUB EL SEGUNDO
Wednesday there’s free wine, snacks and Joe’s Jazz Band at Bay Club, El Segundo. It goes from 6-8 and is open to anyone. These are cool events; go sooner rather than later! If you don’t want to worry about driving, the Beach Cities Transit (the “white bus”) will get you there and back for a buck each way.
CHANGES & UPGRADES COMING TO MERMAID
Have you ever been into the back room at Mermaid? The one with the pool table? They’ve turned it into a cool sports lounge with a pair of big TVs and it’s a pretty sweet place to watch a game. Or gather for a group party. I mentioned this to the manager, Jeff, and he then said there’s some really cool upgrades in the works for this cool bar.
They are going to extend the patio along The Strand by taking out two parking spots and will replace the wall next to the patio with a big glass window or doors that open up to the outside. The timing is, well, not anytime soon, but perhaps by spring or summer. The Drink of the Week this week, by the way, is made with gin. I’m not much of a gin guy but like all the Drink of the Weeks it’s awesome.
THE ‘DIRTY LITTLE SECRET’ AT PANCHO’S
Here’s your PubClub.com Party Tip of the Week: When you go to Pancho’s, instead of getting a beer or its house margarita, get the “Dirty Maggie.” It’s the best bargain in a place with pretty pricey drinks, and is kind of a hidden special except for those in the know. DINER EN BLANC LOS ANGELES
Have you ever head of a dinner event in which people dress in all white and they have to bring their own table, chairs and even food, which are are held in public places in locations that are not announced until two hours ahead of time? I had and know they hugely popular in cities around the world, attracting as many as 10,000 people. They had one in Los Angeles last Friday.
It’s called Diner le Blanc and folks, it was spectacular. I had my jaw dropped open half the time just soaking in the scene. It was sponsored by Apothic wine, which was liberally available to us in the press.
