Despite Trojans Disappointing Record Southern California Irish Fans Will Help Rock The Coliseum
If you think for one moment that the USC-Notre Dame game at the LA Coliseum on Thanksgiving Day weekend won’t be a party because the Trojans are 7-4 and are coming off a loss to cross-town rival UCLA, then think again.
It WILL be a party!
It will be a party because USC games are always a party! They are a blast.
Forget the front-of-Coliseum tailgate parties; those are private affairs for Cardinal and Gold and other rich alumni. It’s the campus that’s happening.
I love to pack a few beers in a backpack and cruise the campus three to four hours before the game. There are two big tailgate areas past Tommy Trojan, and both are happening. Well, it’s more a series of picnic parties than tailgate parties, but you get the idea.
And about an hour and a half before kickoff – the Notre Dame game starts at 5 p.m. – the Song Girls and band come marching right down the sidewalk, through campus and into the stadium. They stop at Tommy Trojan and play a few “USC songs” (like “Tusk”) and if you are lined up at the front, you can get an up-close look at those gorgeous Song Girls.
Then it’s onto the game – and if you need to get tickets, do so on the USC campus instead of across the street on the Coliseum grounds because the LAPD has cracked down on scalpers and those who buy from scalpers – which are always fun.
After the game, don’t leave the stadium. Head instead to the student section where the band and Song Girls preform for about 45 minutes. You can walk down the stands and get right in front of them. It’s awesome and I love it!
