How To Avoid Conversation-Stopping Bad Breath
Suddenly, the person you’re talking to makes an odd facial expression and cuts off the conversation by saying “I need to go check on my friend” and pretty much avoids you the rest of the party.
You’ve just been burned by what PubClub.com refers to as Bad Holiday Food Breath. Usually, you can recognize it but you’re at somebody else’s house and can’t escape to the bathroom to brush your teeth and of course you did not bring any breath mints with you.
So you’re hosed for the night.
This situation is easily avoidable, however, if you simply avoid certain foods at those holiday parties. Here’s our list of five food items to never eat at a holiday party.
1.) Anything With Raw Onions
This will kill a breath – and a conversation – with a single bite.
A lot of times, home-made salads or other items will contain raw onions, so be careful to look before plunging into them. And wanna-be chefs who bring these things: don’t put raw onions into these dishes in the first place. Yes, you may wish to show off your cooking skills to others but this isn’t a contest on the Food Network.
2.) Raw Broccoli
Avoid “broccoli breath.” It’s worse than raw onion breath and you can NOT get rid of it.
This is often the toughest thing to avoid because hosts put trays of peanuts out by the bar and several other places and it’s natural just to reach down and grab a handful of nuts. Don’t do it, tho.
4.) Store-Bought Vegetable Platter
You know this one well, it’s at every house party in America. But besides not tasting good because nothing on it is fresh, it contains the dreaded raw broccoli, the mini-carrots (also to be avoided), cherry tomatoes (half of which seem to be spoiled) and that awful, conversation-killing dip.
5.) French Onion Soup Dipping Sauce
Speaking of conversation-killing dips, this one is definitely to be avoided and in fact, just skip any white dipping sauce because it likely contains onions, low-grade seasoning power and who knows what else, all of which will make you breath smell like a bad food factory.
If you don’t follow these tips and dip below the acceptable breath barometer, then at least take this piece of PubClub advice. Go to the bar area and drink. At least this way, you’ll entertain yourself – perhaps even meeting another bad-breath guest or two in the process – and you’ll get a good buzz on, which is half the point of being at the party in the first place.
