Recently, I saw a report stating that drinking two beers a day can age you prematurely by as much as 10 years.

This contradicts other reports stating that beer is actually good for you.

So which is correct and is drinking beer bad for you? Here is the answer.

Beer Is Good For Your Mind & Soul

I didn’t read that article on beer aging you because I figured the headline was just clickbait. Plus, I did not believe it.

I’m not doctor (and not do I play one on TV) but I am a beer lover and know that – in proper moderation that also includes occasional slamming times such as college football games, St. Patrick’s Day and Jimmy Buffett concerts just to name three– that beer is indeed good for you.

Beer is good for your mind and it’s good for your soul. It enhances one’s lifestyle, one’s happiness and provides for a good work/play balance. And all of those things are good for your health.

Beer is good for your mental heath and can keep you from getting lonely and depressed. Pop open a cold one at home or at a bar and suddenly it brings a smile to your face. Suddenly, even if you are alone, you feel the presence of friends. You start to recall fun times and if you wind up having a couple more, you may even start calling and doing FaceTime with friends.

All that is healthy.

How Beer Makes Simple Things In Life Better

There are many simple and mundane things we do in life that beer makes better.

For example, mowing the lawn on a hot summer day is no fun. But plopping down in a chair with a cold beer afterward makes it satisfying.

If you’re on a super-long hold with customer service, then go to the fridge and grab a beer.

Spice up the routine things in life by having a beer. That is very good exercise for your mental health.

How Beer Makes Boring Things In Life Better

Ever go to a boring dinner/cocktail party or wedding reception where the guests are more dull than being stuck in traffic? Well, pop open a brew and suddenly things aren’t so bad!

Have a job that is so monotonous you spend more time staring at the clock on the wall than you do your computer screen? Once it’s finally time to leave, it can all be forgotten with a couple of beers at Happy Hour.

Do you get dragged out to go shopping? Rather than tag and drag along with her, find a place to sit down and have a beer. Stay there until she returns and you’re both happy!

Ways How Beer Prematurely Ages You

There are, however, certain things that beer does to prematurely age you.

For one, if you’re not careful and drink beer without exercising, you will quickly develop a beer belly.

Have a too many and suddenly you can’t remember things: an important meeting at the office, the date or time of a flight, your wife or girlfriend’s birthday (forgetting anniversaries are just the product of being a guy) or, in some extreme cases, even your own birthday.

Fortunately some, if not all, of these memory lapses disappear the day after a big night of drinking beer. So, unlike as it is with an elderly person, it’s not permanent.

Beer can actually help one’s memory, too. For instance, you suddenly remember a wild time with the boys or can suddenly recite the scores of your favorite team’s games from 10 years ago.

Beer is not bad for you. To the contrary it is good for you and your long-term health.
