Tradition Takes A Twist With These Kentucky Derby Cocktails

Eron Plevan, head mixologist at Louisville-based Gold Bar, sure makes his share of them, especially during Kentucky Derby Week. And now he’s created a new version of the classic cocktail with a twist.
It includes Lipton Iced Tea.
So if you’re one to break with tradition to try something new, check out these creative cocktails.
Lipton Strawberry Mint Julep

Ingredients:
- 1.5oz bourbon
- 1 cup of White Sugar
- Lipton Herbal Iced Tea Strawberry + Mint
- 3 strawberries slices
- 6 mint leaves
Instructions: In a julep tin add 1oz of Strawberry & Mint Lipton syrup and muddle 3 strawberry slices and 6-8 large mint leaves for 15-20 seconds. Add bourbon, then add crushed ice. Garnish with a mint bouquet and a strawberry rose.
• To make tea syrup: combine 1 cup of white sugar and 1 cup of Lipton Herbal Iced Tea Strawberry + Mint. Stir until fully dissolved. Works best if tea is room temperature and not chilled.
Lipton Green Tea Watermelon Lily

Ingredients:
- .75oz Watermelon Vodka
- .75oz orange-flavoured Triple Sec
- .75oz Cranberry Juice
- .75oz fresh lemon juice
- .5oz simple syrup
- Lipton Green Tea Watermelon
Instructions: Shake all ingredients in a shaker tin and strain over iced cubes made from Lipton Green Tea Watermelon Iced Tea (see instructions). Serve in a stemless wine glass, garnish with mint bouquet and a skewer of watermelon cubes.
• To make Lipton Iced Tea Cubes: Pour tea into an ice tray of your choice—square cubes recommended. Freeze overnight. Be sure freezer is free of food or freezer odors that might affect the aroma and flavor of cubes.
Lipton Orange Blossom Julep

Ingredients:
- 1.5oz bourbon
- Honey
- Lipton Herbal Orange Blossom Iced Tea
- 2 orange slices
- 6 mint leaves
Instructions: In a julep tin add 1oz of Orange Blossom Lipton Iced Tea honey syrup (see instructions) and muddle two orange slices and 6-8 mint leaves for 15-20 seconds. Add bourbon, then add crushed ice. Garnish with a mint bouquet, a skewered cherry, and an orange rose if applicable.
• To make tea honey syrup: combine equal parts honey and Orange Blossom Iced Tea. Stir until combined and smooth.
