For Super Bowl LVII, he has a few cocktail recommendations featuring his own line of canned cocktails and spirits. He also has a best-selling cocktail book “Sammy Hagar’s Cocktail Hits.” Released last March, it contains 85 Personal Favorites from the Red Rocker.” The man sure knows his drinks!
So, what does he suggest for this year’s game? Well he puts a rocker’s twist on it by pairing the Hagar-led Van Halen classic “Dreams” with his specialty face off cocktails, the mango jalapeño cocktail retitled the Philly Peño and the mojito cocktail retitled the Mahomes Mojito, to get fired up before, during and even after the game.
The Eagles green-colored Philly Peño is a spicy mango margarita made with jalapeños, triple sec, mango puree, sweet & sour mix and Cabo Wabo Blanco Tequila.and the Chiefs red-colored Mahomes Mojito is packed with fresh raspberries and mint made with raspberries, mint leaves, lime juice and Sammy’s Beach Bar Platinum and Red Head Rums.
Sammy Hagar’s Phily Peno Cocktail Recipe
Philly Peño (Mango Peño), featuring Cabo Wabo Blanco Tequila – From Mas Tequila chapter, page 94
• 2 slices of fresh jalapeño
• 1 1⁄2 ounces of Cabo Wabo Blanco Tequila
• 1 ⁄2 ounce of triple sec (or any high-quality orange liqueur)
• 1 ounce of mango purée (recipe on page 232)
• 3 ounces of sweet & sour mix (recipe on page 235)
• Rim: Fresh lime and Tajín
• Garnish: Fresh lime wheel
Preparation: Run a fresh lime wedge around the rim of a rocks or old fashioned glass. Roll the moistened rim in Tajín and set the glass aside. In a cocktail shaker, add the jalapeño slices. Using a muddler, gently (yet firmly) muddle the jalapeño. Add the Cabo Wabo Blanco tequila, triple sec, mango purée, and sweet & sour mix. Fill the shaker with ice and shake. Pour the entire contents into the prepared glass and garnish with a fresh lime wheel.
Sammy Hagar’s Mahomes Mojito Cocktail Recipe
Mahomes Mojito (Mojito Rising), featuring Sammy’s Beach Bar Platinum and Red Head Rums – From the Tinseltown Twists (with Cleveland Pre-Funk) chapter, page 196
• 3 fresh raspberries
• 4–6 fresh mint leaves
• 3⁄4 ounce of fresh lime juice
• 1 1⁄2 ounces of Sammy’s Beach Bar Platinum Rum
• 1⁄2 ounce of Sammy’s Beach Bar Red Head Rum
• Soda water, as needed
• Garnish: Fresh watermelon slice, lime wheel and a mint sprig
Preparation: In a cocktail shaker, add the raspberries, mint leaves and lime juice. Using a muddler, gently (yet firmly) muddle the ingredients. Add both Sammy’s Beach Bar Platinum and Red Head Rums, and shake lightly. Pour into a Collins glass filled with ice. Top with soda water and garnish with a slice of fresh watermelon, lime wheel and a mint sprig.
