Gubba Rum Flavor-Infused Rum Review, Drink Recipes & Where To Buy It

Taste Test Makes It Easy To Understand Why These Are Award-Winning Rums

Before I opened the two bottles of Gubba Rum – the Silver coconut rum and a Gold vanilla rum – I was skeptical.

After all, as a pure rum lover, I am not much for flavored versions of the spirit. They taste too sweet and have very little taste of the actual rum. They seem cheap and are – quite frankly – commercial products for the uneducated rum palate.

That, however, is not the case with Gubba Rum. It was obvious from the very first sips from each bottle that this is a high-quality rum. And the flavors enhance the rum instead of overwhelming it.  The vanilla blends perfectly with the Gold – you can taste both the vanilla and the rum and with the Silver, the coconut has a real coconut flavor.

“Oh, well that’s because it’s not flavored, it’s infused,” explained Gubba Rum owner Steven Gubb.

This explains why Gubba Silver earned a gold medal while Gubba Gold a bronze at the SIP Awards in Long Beach, CA. It also won bronze at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. It has also won awards at the World Spirits Competitions in San Diego and New York and the Takes of the Cocktail in New Orleans.

Produced by Dancing Pines Distillery of Denver, Colorado, the Gubba Silver contains  natural coconut and Gubba Gold has natural vanilla. Neither contains any flavoring or extracts, which produce that “too sweet” commercial taste.

It is, according to the company, “wicked smooth. So smooth, it’s like a vacation in a bottle.”

Can’t argue with those points.

Drink Recipes For Gubba Rum

While is perfectly fine to enjoy each of the Gubba Rum products as a sipping rum or over ice, PubClub.com recommends having it in a couple cocktails.

• Gubba Rum & OJ

As anyone who has been to a tiki bar knows, good rums are best served with juices. My go-to juice is OJ, and even with fine Caribbean rums I use a combination of it with mango or guava. But since the Gubba rums are already flavored, all you need is the orange juice. What you get is a refreshing combination of the rum, the juice and the infused flavor that will instantly make you think you’re on the beach or at a tropical pool party, even if you are landlocked in places like Kentucky or Ohio.

This works well with both the Gold and the Silver.

• Gubba Rum & Coke/Pepsi

Normally, PubClub would never recommend mixing good rum with soda but in this case it works really well. PubClub prefers Diet Pepsi but you can use Coke, Diet Coke or regular Pepsi if that is your preference.

After some experimenting, I came up with this winning combination: add both rums to the drink.  Each of the rums works in conjunction with each other to produce an incredible and unique cocktail.

Where To Find Gubba Rum

It is available for between $20-25 a bottle on Drizzly;  at liquor stores, as well as bars and restaurants in Massachusetts and Florida; plus on the Gubba Rum website. It will eventually be available in South Florida, New Orleans, and California,

It also pours at several rum, spirits and tiki festivals around the USA such as the New England Tequila & Rum Festival at Twin River Casino in Rhode Island and at the Nightclub & Bar Show in Las Vegas.
