To honor women across the world for Women’s History Month, PubClub.com features employees of Zacapa Rum.
Zacapa Rum is rooted in the craft of its network of women from distillation to mixology.
Zacapa No. 23 is an aged rum, handcrafted in Guatemala under the supervision of one of the only female Master Blenders in the world, Lorena Vásquez. She is the innovative force behind the rum’s distillation process, which includes aging of the dark spirit in the “House Above the Clouds.” Located 7,500 ft above sea level, the unique location and climate allows Zacapa to achieve its deeply complex flavor profile.
In addition to the rum brand’s Master Blender, Zacapa Rum supports the Guatemalan community by employing over 700 female weavers to craft their signature petate bands that encircle every bottle of Zacapa. This provides local women the opportunity to support themselves through small businesses and reinvest in their community.
To celebrate these wonderful women, Zacapa created a collection of distinctive cocktails, each crafted to embody their dynamic personalities. La Infusión, an aromatic twist on the classic Negroni blends the inventive spirit Lorena is known for into a basil-infused cocktail.
While La Artista Brillante is a sparkling libation meant to reflect the magic Master Mixologist, Lynnette Marrero creates for the brand daily. Outside of the rum’s creation process, Zacapa also calls on expert female voices within the bartending community to be ambassadors for the brand. Lynnette is one of these industry visionaries creating revolutionary recipes while spreading her knowledge of the spirits space.
Here are two of those recipes.
