Yes, the area is well known for its scotches and whiskeys but it is also a hotbed for gin.
The Zoom tasting will take place on Thursday, Oct. 24, at 6 p.m., ET.
The tasting will take participants on a digital journey of Scotland, starting on the rugged salt-kissed western isles and finishing in the storied capital, Edinburgh. Attendees will have the opportunity to try four distinct Scottish gins, whilst learning about the sordid and tantalizing history of a spirit which is seen as synonymous with the UK.
It will last between 60-90 minutes. Prices vary depending on location but start at $120 per person.
“Scotland is currently in the middle of a gin renaissance, with the country being at the forefront of some of the most exciting distillation innovation in the world,” said Michael McCuish, Gin Specialist for Away from the Ordinary, which is putting on the tasting. “Three of the world’s best-selling gins are currently being made here. Even more impressive is the fact that over 70% of the UK’s total gin production takes place north of the border; not bad for a country of just over 5.4 million people.
“There are now approximately 300 Scottish gins made by over 100 different brands. This means a lot of glorious spirt to taste, and many more beautiful Scottish distilleries to visit.
“With Scotland’s prestigious distilling history, the wonderful terroir, water and botanicals readily available, and the constant innovation and ingenuity within the industry, it is no mystery as to why Scottish gin is such a global success story.”
