Don’t Criticize Rob Gronkowski and Matt Light For Dancing After Loss to Giants
Ever heard of blowing off steam?
Ever have a bad day at work and and at the end of it say, “man, that was rough. I need a drink!”
That’s what Rob Gronkowski and offensive tackle Matt Light were likely doing after Super Bowl XLVI at a post-game party. For some, this is a slap in the face. Apparently, after you lose you’re supposed to go back to your hotel room and sulk all night. Bury your head and don’t show your face in public.
What a crock.
How many Patriots fans were drinking and partying after the game? In sports, that’s known as drowning your sorrows.
The parent of this blog, PubClub.com, even has a party cheer of “Win or Lose, We Booze!”
Had the players been out the night before the game rather than the night after the game, that might be a different story. It certainly would be if they did that and then had bad games.
There used to be a time when football players could be football players on and off the field. Joe Namath went out frequently in New York – and other cities – even the night before games. The Oakland/LA Raiders built a reputation on their wild antics. Max McGee was a hero of Super Bowl I after a long night out in L.A., admittedly showing up with a hangover (he was retiring after the game and was not supposed to play).
So players, go ahead and party. Just be more like McGee and don’t pull a Plaxico Burress.
