Why The Cheaper Seats Can Be The Best Place To Find The Party

Are expensive concert tickets really worth the money? After years of attending concerts from the lawn to down-low seats, I’ve learned it depends on why you’re going. If you’re there for the artist, spend the money. If you’re there for the party, the cheaper seats may actually be more fun.
Premium seats vs. nosebleeds? It’s a common delimma when looking up tickets for a concert and it’s probably the number one question people ask before hitting the “puchase” button.
I can settle this debate for you. I’ve always found that the regular seats are more fun becuase the fun people can’t afford the expensive seats. Therefore, if you want to have more fun at concert, hand out with the fun people. And where are those fun people? In the cheap seats!
Now let me toss this into the equation, too. If it’s an artist you really want to see, then pay the extra money for good seats. If you don’t care and are just going for the atmosphere, get the cheap seats.
I’ll give you examples from personal experiences.
When I first started going to Jimmy Buffett concerts at Irvine Meadows in LA, I went with the party crowd and sat in the lawn seats. After the awesome tailgate party leading up to it, this seemed to be the perfect place to meet girls.
But the lawn was steep, there was only one bathroom and concession stand as I recall, and I spent almost as much time at those places as I did watching the show. I am a big Buffett fan and I had the opportunity to be down low. From that point forward, I always got the more expensive tickets. Plus, with Buffett there was a party everywhere so I wasn’t missing a thing.
Now here’s another scenario. I went to a Luke Bryan concert. I knew of him but not about him. My friend got down-low seats (for the handsome price at $350 a pop!) thinking he would have a date. When she could not make it, I got invited. The seats were pretty fun – people were singing and dancing around us – but there were also some older folks who sat down the whole time and were not interested in having conversations outside of their group. So I went up the concourse area where there were views of the stage and found the real party.
So this is my advice: If you’re going for the artist, buy the best seats you can reasonably afford. If you’re going for the party, buy the cheaper seats and hang out with more fun people.
Q&A
Are Expensive Concert Tickets Worth It?
It depends on why you’re going. If it’s one of your favorite artists and you want to see the performer rather than watch most of the show on a video screen, paying more to get down low may be worth every dollar. That’s how I felt about Jimmy Buffett concerts. But if you’re primarily going for the atmosphere and party, I’ve often found the cheaper seats can be more fun. That’s where I would have preferred to be for Luke Bryan.
Are Cheap Concert Seats More Fun?
Pretty much, yes. In my experience, the cheaper sections often have more casual fans who are there as much for the party as the performer. That’s not necessarily where you’ll get the best view, but it may be where you’ll find the best atmosphere.
