British horseracing has a long fine history, with top world horse races held in the UK every year. There are rich traditions associated with royalty. Horse Race events are part sport, part cultural events with lots of glitzy patrons. There are world-class race courses spread out in the country hosting races that keep a busy horse racing calendar. Here are some of the finest horse races in Britain every horse racing fan should visit.

Aintree

This racecourse is famous as the host of the Grand National, which is one of the biggest horse racing events in the world. It was established in 1829 and is now only a few minutes’ ride from Liverpool’s CBD as the city has expanded since then. Its tough fences make for very exciting steeplechase hurdles and thousands of fans turn out each year for this grand spectacle.

The Grand National attracts the finest horse trainers, jockeys and high breed horses. It is also closely watched by horse racing betting fans, who wager an estimated £250 million over the course of the event. But there are other horseracing events throughout the year. Here are the best tips for racing tomorrow for the best bets.

Ascot

If you are a fan of British royalty, this is the racecourse where you can stand a chance of mingling with Britain’s high-class society. This racecourse has ties to the royal family. The annual Royal Ascot event  is graced by members of the royal family, sometimes by the queen herself. The race was established by Queen Anne back in the 18th century.

Events on this racecourse ooze with glitz and glamour, especially during the Royal Ascot. Most of the fans come here largely for the social interaction, and some horse racing. The racecourse is only an hour’s ride from London, so it attracts thousands of classy fans.

Cheltenham

This racecourse is set in an area designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are few racecourses in the world that match the finery of this one. It is a great attraction the year round. Thousands of horse racing fans patronize the bars, restaurants and other amenities alongside the racecourse.

This racecourse is home to the annual Cheltenham Festival, which is one of the richest in the world in prizes. The festival takes place over four days with four main races: Champion Hurdle, Queen Mother Champion Chase, and the Gold Cup. The Gold Cup is the main event. Each of these races attracts over £1 million in  wagers.

Windsor

The royal connections here are strong. There is a royal castle on the grounds of this racecourse, and you must maintain a dress code in some sections. It is not a large racecourse because it is surrounded by the River Thames. But what it lacks in size it makes up for with beauty, class and an overwhelming sense of British pedigree. It holds the Leisure Stakes and the Royal Windsor Stakes.

Godwood

This racecourse sees more events than many others on the account of the good weather on the South Coast. The racecourse has a natural design that allows fans to take in beautiful scenes from the hilly terraces. The beautiful landscape and great weather pull in thousands of horse racing fans and tourists from nearby Brighton and Portsmouth.

The highlight event at this racecourse takes place in the height of summer when the racecourse is at the height of beauty. It is the Great Godwood, which draws in a good mixture of both local and international horse racing tourists.

It is also home to the Sussex Stakes, which is one of the biggest flat races in the world. It draws lots of international contestants who are comfortable with the South Coast weather.

Epsom Downs

This racecourse dating back to the 17th century is one of the oldest racecourses in continuous existence in the world. Most horse racing fans come here for the rich history that has been well documented. It holds three notable events each year; The Coronation Cup, Epsom Derby, and the Epsom Oaks.

York

This racecourse has been voted ‘Best Racecourses In Britain’ four times. It is in the North of England, where the weather is not that great. But this racecourse makes up for it with great horse racing events full of entertainment for tourists from all over the country.

The flagship event is the Ebor Festival, which is the richest flat race in the UK. The festival attracts top entertainers, celebrities, and lots of local and international tourists.

If you are a horse racing fan, few places can match the rich tradition of the sport in the UK. Visit these top racecourses to appreciate the sport and its culture.
