Where The World Goes To Party!

The Downside Of The Wellness Culture

January 19, 2022 by kevinwilkerson Leave a Comment

They always say: “Health is wealth.” How does this quote affect the culture nowadays, given that the pandemic is still roaring its tail across the globe? Is there an eagerness for everyone to commit to health and wellness on various programs and advertisements?

Not only individuals are in search of health benefits but also companies that are responsible for the well-being of their employees. However, there’s approximately 10% of 50,000 individuals abstain from engaging in health programs, according to a survey from Corporate Wellness Magazine. Thus, the cost of medication significantly increases each year if there’s no prevention done.

Maybe there are reasons why people intend to prioritize other matters instead of monitoring their health that could serve as a motivation to live life to the fullest. However, not all industries are impeccable and ideal, including the wellness culture.

What Is a Wellness Culture?

Wellness culture refers to practices, discipline, ideas, values, and support in relation to health, safety, and physical fitness that help organizations and individuals achieve a healthy lifestyle and environment.

Rules and programs are implemented for the workforce to follow by sharing norms promoting health awareness with teamwork and peer support.

However, there might be common notions that are still circulating that give a hazy understanding of the importance of well-being. Now, be informed of these five unhelpful sides of wellness culture to raise awareness on its downside.

  • Transformation beliefs
  • Inactive participation in wellness programs
  • The demand for urgent results
  • Skipping the root cause
  • Cost of health plans

Transformation Beliefs

Have you ever felt always being out of place or left out in the corner because of bullying—specifically body shaming that is rampant these days? Whether it’s a yes or a no, no one can hide the feeling of transforming oneself because of public belief.

Televisions and social media platforms create advertisements that are very appealing to the netizens. An example of content is when people are not contented with the body they have, they can change themselves in the fastest way. And that will trigger people to set expectations that are not achievable within a short period. What matters is the version of today, right at this moment, that will give everyone the idea of who they’ll be tomorrow.

Inactive Participation in Wellness Programs

Encouragement in wellness programs is challenging especially when people are very sensitive to results. It’s because wellness programs are more objective rather than considering the main focus or the target goal for the concerned individual.

There’s a big chance that isolation will happen if they don’t feel comfortable in the programs. That’s why there should be a certain point of interest to help people stay in health programs longer. And, according to research initiated by JOEM, there’ll be an 18.4% decrease in cost if programs will lower the risk factors in line with theoretical minimums.

The Demand for Urgent Results

Urgent results are usually demanded once a person has already started doing cycles on physical fitness or nutrition education. Now, they’ll start buzzing the bell to ask for justifications or proof that what they’re going through is effective.

It’s as if people are gambling on online slot games in https://icecasino.com/en-ca, wherein players are quickly provided with the results for each spin. But in relation to the wellness culture, people need to be assured of their rewards.

Skipping the Root Cause

The wellness culture is not only limited to a specific symptom or illness. It also covers the root causes of why people experience what they do and why they feel the way they do. Without considering the root cause of an illness, how can medical workers sustain a long-term healthy body?

Most recommendations start with prevention and cure but understanding the reasons why people get sick or malnourished is very important. This will help them know what healthcare program they need in order to avoid failure in the process, and worse, there’ll be greater costs.

Cost of Health Plans

Health insurances are getting recognized each day because of the offers that everyone can benefit from. Based on the survey conducted by Vera Whole Health in a corporate setup, 0% of the participants expected a decrease in cost. Most of the answers came from employees who have a length of service from 1 to 3 years.

This only means that there are more privileges to a higher level of position in companies rather than those at the bottom of an organization wherein they could not afford availing more because of the cost of health plans.

So, instead of acquiring premium health benefits, people automatically decide on the basic packages, which also manifests a burden on the organization that could not afford to upgrade their benefits.

Conclusion

It’s ideal to see every individual participate in various one-of-a-kind health care programs, especially the ones that involve counselling. However, the challenges in sustaining a wellness culture are beatable if there is enough inspiration from the people who administer such programs. So, discipline is the first step in making a healthy lifestyle achievable.
