How To Make The Most Out Of Your Trip
There’s packing, traffic getting to the airport, ticket and/or luggage and security lines and a just-get-me-on-the-plane boarding process.
This is modern airline travel and it can be a hassle, but here’s a few tips that can instead make it an entertaining and even a pleasant trip.
For starters, you can be in a good mood if you got a good deal on your trip, which often starts with flight bookings to find the best airfare. After that, settle into the journey.
1.) Be Mentally Prepared For The Challenges
If you know what to expect, then it’s easier to deal with the challenges of airline travel. From the minute you walk out the door until the time you sit down in your seat there’s things you have to deal with, so do it with a good attitude and be friendly to people. This will put you in a good mood for your trip.
2.) Aisle Vs. Window Seat
This is a personal preference but as a general rule it’s a good idea to take an aisle seat for flights of less than four hours and a window seat for flights of more than four hours. The reason for this is for longer flights, you can use the side of the plane to brace your head, making it way easier to sleep. Another benefit to a window seat is obvious – the view! Just be sure and go to the bathroom before the flight departs; you don’t want to have to get up just as your getting comfortable.
3.) Get Comfortable In Your Seat
Don’t be squirming around in your seat the entire flight. When you first sit down, pull out all the things you’ll be using during the flight (laptop, books, magazines, music, movies, whatever) and have it all within easy reach. If you’re constantly reaching for things then you’ll never be able to relax.
4.) Bring Aboard A Meal/Snack
Always have something to eat with you, if it’s a sandwich when there’s no meal service or just come snacks. Once the beverage service takes place, lean back and enjoy your snacks and do some people watching, watch the in-flight entertainment, listen to your music or do whatever makes you relaxed. Having a snack is also great if there’s any fight delays. Because as we all know, we all get grumpy and impatient when we’re hungry.
5.) Get To Know Your Seatmeats
The best way to pass the time and to relax on a plane is to talk with your seatmates. Ask them where they are from, where they are going and why (business or pleasure), what movies they watch or music they listen to, hobbies and interests, favorite vacation spots or even their top sports teams. Do this and you will be amazed at how relaxed this will make you feel and how much you will enjoy the flight. Even if there’s more than one of you, it’s possible to make friends on the flight and sometimes even friends for life. Maybe they even have an extra bedroom in some desired destination and will invite you to stay with them. This happens all the time to happy and talkative passengers.
Overall, what you have to keep in mind is that you’re in airports and on airplanes for a certain amount of time when you’re traveling, and instead of dreading it, make the most of it.
