Travel Blogger Takes Aim At These Top Music Festivals & Sporting Events

Everybody needs a bucket list. I actually have two. One is for destinations and one is for events. Here, I provide a rundown of the top events I have on my Bucket List to attend for 2018. Let’s see how many of them I get to this year.
Oh, and I reserve the right to add to these events – give me your suggestions!
I’ve broken it down into categories.
2018 Bucket List Music Concerts & Festivals

• Jimmy Buffett & The Eagles Concert. This is a blockbuster tour with just a few locations. I would pick the one in Buffett’s adopted home state, Florida, Hard Rock Stadium (home of the Miami Dolphins) on April 21. Link: Complete Buffett Concert Tour Schedule
• Tortogua Music Festival. I’ll make it a month in Florida with the this country music festival on the beach in Fort Lauderdale. It’s the first weekend of April and is a huge beach party.
• Festival d’été de Québec. This is an incredible week-long series of concerts in a quaint, cool city with huge bands – The Who and Rolling Stones have played the past two years. It’s probably the only music festival in the world that has not perfected the fine art of ripping you off with ridiculous ticket prices. The entire week pass is just $105 Canadian Dollars, or about $85 USD. Link: Festival d’ete’ de Quebec
2018 Bucket List Party Events

The Mullet Toss. This is on my list for a few reasons. One, it’s an oddball event that is just an all-out party. Secondly, you can drink on the beach. Third, it’s at the legendary FloraBama bar on the Florida-Alabama border, a place I’ve always wanted to go anyway. The 2018 dates – yes, it’s a multi-day event – are April 27-29.
Kentucky Derby Infield. Here, I’m blurring the lines between “sporting events” and “party events,” and this one is definitely much more of the latter than the former. PubClub has been there with a photographer, the PubClubettes and Louisville native “Delicous Dee,” and now it’s time for the chief – me! – to experience it. Links: PubClub’s Kentucky Derby Posts.
Indy 500 Infield. I know many of the IndyCar drivers and team people from my PR work with them, but have never been to the Indy 500 and would love go to as a spectator. And there’s no better way to be a spectator than to be in the infield as part of what is known as the “Snake Pit.” Link: The Indy 500 Infield Party Scene.
2018 Bucket List Sports Events
The Masters. I’m a sports guy and – just once – would like to go to this tournament. If even for a day. I would then head up to Hilton Head Island, S.C., for the RBC Heritage at Sea Pines Plantation. I used to cover the Heritage when I was a sportswriter for the Savannah News-Press and would love to go back as a spectator.
Wimbledon. I would love to hop on a train in London and go to Wimbledon for a couple of days. I would like to do this the first weekend while things are a bit more loose than for the semis or finals. In addition to golf, I covered women’s tennis when I was at the paper and know the days before the finals is the best because there are games being played on all the outside courts. I won’t have strawberries and cream but rather champagne and English lager beers. Then I’ll hit the pubs in London.
Tour de France. I have long wanted to go to this event, and not so much for the cycling but the scene. As I understand it, you can be sitting at a French cafe, having a glass of wine along with some cheese and crackers, and then whoomp – the riders come zooming by you. Then you get on your bike and go to the next village. You can also sit on a hill in the Pyrenees and have a picnic while you watch the riders. Then you go to Paris for the final day celebration.
Alabama At Ole Miss College Football Game. I’ve never been to The Grove, the best tailgate party in college football. This year, my alma mater, Alabama plays at Ole Miss and this would be the game for me to experience The Grove. Hottie Toddie!
