A Los Angeles House Of Horrors In Hermosa Beach

I did not have to travel far for this daily blog post.
In fact, all I had to do was walk into the living room.
And when I did, I walked into the smallest haunted house in Los Angeles.
My roommate is a decorating diva – even herself; she easily won a local bar’s Halloween costume contest that included three nights at a waterfront hotel – who has turned the main room in our small rented place in Hermosa Beach into a Halloween horror. There’s skeletons hanging from the ceiling, spooky characters hanging out at my tiki bar, even a ghostly man sitting atop the umbrella stand on the porch. Plus, all sorts of creepy things on the fireplace mantelpiece.
There’s so much stuff on the table in front of the TV, I have to stand up to turn it on because the items block the signal from the remote.
It’s such a masterpiece, a couple walking by came inside and thought it was a Halloween store. And left disappointed when I told them it wasn’t, that it’s a residence.
A maintenance worker for the city stopped by to take photos. People slow down and stop and gawk on a regular basis.

Yet she’s not done. The roommate, Laura, keeps adding to it. When she decorates, it’s like Walt Disney’s vision when he built Disneyland – it’s never finished.
Last year, she went to the store to get stuff three times in one day. She was there so often, they probably gave her preferred parking right by the door.
But she doesn’t go to high-end places to do her decorative shopping. Most of the items come from the Dollar Tree, where everything in the store is 99 cents.
“They have so much stuff and it’s all just 99 cents,” she explained. “It’s just there for the taking!!!”
And now it’s all on display in our house. Our suddenly haunted house.
Happy Halloween!
